hey everyone, i'm gunna be turboing my d16 very soon. i have a 97 coupe and i ahve foglights. i want to keep the foglights, so i need to mount my intercooler down low. i mounted my 7" yesterday, and it mounts up fine, but the intercooler stops midway in my grille. so i was thiknin of getin a 12" that way the intercooler will go all the way up to my bumper support and it will fill up the grill space. however i don't want it to kill my power. im boostin a stock d16 at maybe 7-8 psi so i'm not gunna be runnin mad whp .. so i'm just wondering what the difference would be between the two?
its basically an apearance mod, but if its gunna make my car suck *** .. i'll just stay w/ the 7"
p.s. one more thing, if i get my car tuned w/ my 7" intercooler .. and decide to upgrade to a 12" .. will i need a retune? or are we good?

It could lead to less pressure drop and lower IAT's, which both will make the system more efficient - resulting in needing more fuel (leaning out).
You can upgrade and try the old-fasioned "read the spark plug" method, which could tell you if a retune is needed.

so it would be better to use a big one? .. the only thing i'm worrying about is spooling up slower .. like getting boost at 4.5k instead of 4k .. will the bigger intercooler do this or no? if it wont i'll definately buy a bigger one b/c it would just make my car look that much sicker

Wouldn't there be more pressure drop going to a 5'' taller intercooler?

I don't think it would be anything severe, probably not too noticeable.
What turbo anyway?

t3 .. .42/.48 a/r ... i just bought a 27x12x3 w/ 2.5 outlets from ebay .. 113 shipped. it said there is a pressure drop of .2-.5 @ 15psi ... so i guess i'll try it out .. it'll probably be fine. its just gunna look so much better than my 7" now
your spool will be fine, you might need a boost controller to turn the boost up a bit as you might loose 1-2 psi... i did this a while back and didnt notice a thing but more power and lower iat!!
