5,000 rpm's

why when im driving sometimes the v-tec doesnt kick in i hear
a poof poof sound and it wont let me accelarate good...????

we need more info. can you rev past 5k rpms? does vtec not kick in til 5k rpms? if the check engine light is on run the codes
