Weird Situation, Your Opinion Is Wanted
I have a 2000 Civic Si, it has been sitting for roughly 2 years. (don't ask)
The crappy part it was rarely started up. Turbo it is already in the picture but I need advice on how soon should I make it happen?
I have a LS block fresh from the machine shop. Bored, honed & decked. I have Wiseco pistons, Eagle rods, & ACL bearings all BNIB & the pistons are already measured/sized for the block.
I also have a EF that I am currently trying to sell which I will roughly get $1200 for. (will come into play when you get to the poll)
The car has the stock B16 in it now & I'm kind of weary on boosting it under the circumstances I posted above & fear of it blowing up. Below are the options I have to pick from.
One: Do general maintenance (OP, WP, TB, ect.) & get a turbo kit with the money from the EF & install it on the B16. Continue to build the LS block on the side with whatever money comes along.
Two: Leave the B16 in all stock and continue the LS/VTEC build with the money & install a slow LS/VTEC
I would eventually piece together a kit later on when I get more money (which would probably take forever)
Thanks.

Well I didn't mean it like that. I meant just go B16 turbo and build the LS/VTEC motor on the side and switch the turbo kit out on the LS/VTEC motor when it's to go in or I can rock a stock B16 & build the LS/VTEC and it will be a low compression N/A motor for a little while.
Does that make any more sense?

Well im a LS/vtec man all the way!! I would go with the B16 turbo and build the ls/vtec on the side. You can use the b16 to learn and if anything happens you can move over to the ls. But that is pretty much something only you can decide. I wouldnt waste one pennie on somthing that is not gonna be part of the final project!!

I don't think y'all understand that the turbo kit I put on the B16 would be the one that goes on the LS/VTEC. It will be a nice kit though, def. not Ebay and hopefully not a log manifold.

THe problem with both is you'll have little cash to get yourself out of a hole. Usually if someone has a newish car that sits for 2 years, its because they were some form of military service, had medical issues, or severely broke the law. #1 leaves you with lots of unspent cash, #2 leaves you with unpaid (and future) bills, #3 leaves you with a reason to be ticketed and a record that should be kept as clean as can be. Its not #1, so I'd suggest you don't make your car any faster.
Option TWO seems the best, as you'd have a spare ride to use while working on the Si. It will also let you build up cash reserves, and if needed you can sell the EF later (larger/baller bearing turbo upgrade?).
BTW IDK about Virginia, but in WI, there are no longer any sub-$1000 cars [that run down the road straight]. With this gas crunch, any compact car that doesn't need major work is worth $1000 all day long. I was lucky to get a rust-less EF last year at $800, and it was auto. As odd as it seems, I dont see that EF's value dropping any time soon. That shitbox is an investment, mang!
