Default Timing problem possibly?

Just changed my head gasket and my friend turned the crank by accident, can't see any markings on the crank pulley to find out where tdc is , we tried our best to guess where it was , put the timing belt back on and now the belt is looser than normal. I tried to tighten the tensioner but it would not tighten any further , I tried to start the engine and it cranks and dies sounds horrible any help?
