I tighten my timing belt with my tensioner, the timing belt is tight on the left side the right side and the top, BUT, as soon as i start turning the crank from the bottom and the cams start turning a little. the timing belt becomes loose and skips a tooth any one got ne ideas?

If the problem keeps happening just take off the crank pully and redo the whole belt. Its a pain in the *** but its the best way. Or you could keep trying to tighten it and tighten it. I had the same problem and it took me about 3 hours to get it perfect again. I wish i had air tools to take off that crank pully to save time though.

Are you sure you're installing and tensioning the belt properly?

1. Make sure the cam gear(s) are lined up correctly and that the crank is correctly set to TDC on the #1 piston.

2. Install the timing belt, first over the crank timing pulley, then the tensioner, then the water pump, and finally the cam gear(s).

3. Tighten the tensioner adjustor bolt, and turn the crank over 4-6 times, and verify that nothing hits (valves, pistons, etc.).

4. Loosen the tensioner bolt 180 degrees, and then rotate the crank by about 3 teeth to tension the belt, then tighten the tensioner bolt.

If the belt still skips when you turn the crank, make sure that the tensioner bolt isn't slipping. If that happens I think you need to replace the tensioner pulley.

i have found the reason and it is my tensioner, i had a broken bolt in there, i tapped into it, re-threaded it, put a new bolt but the problem is the bolt doesnt tighten all the way, it keeps turning. now i have to figure out wut i can do to fix it, or i might just need a new bare block, any ideas?
