Default Welcome a new member to the Darkside ...

B20LS-T is now officially boosted. Custom kit with a pretty damn big turbo.

Questions:

Only saw 5psi or so of boost on a WOT run, wastegate (Tial) on a 6psi spring. Is this normal or are we seeing boost leaks somewhere?

For some reason the turbo didn't spool in first and we never saw any boost on the gauge. when you hit 2nd at around 5krpm it would be at about 5psi.

We have a 3" OPEN downpipe but we're running T3/T04E 0.60trim compressor 0.82 trim exhaust with a stage 3 wheel. The turbo was bought for a bigger engine (currently building) and was setup on a b18a (stock) for temporary use to get the custom piping and misc crap sorted out.

Also is there any real way to "test" the BOV, it seems as tho maybe its leaking? Its the HKS SSQ but it isn't a sudden burst. You can barely hear it and it seems like it's slow to release (because we're only runnin 5psi??).

Help is greatly appreciated!

To add to that....we are not using boost controller. The BOV setting(screw in back) is almost set all the way in, there are about 3 threads left. When RPMs are brought to 3000 and let off, a swooshing sound like the BOV comes from what seems like the intake manifold but, there is definately the sound of air escaping under no boost and all fittings and couplings were tightened and checked.

Also we tapped for the WG signal after the BOV and before the intercooler on the intercooler piping, is that the right spot? The BOV is using the same vacuum source as the FPR and the boost guage, is that gonna be a problem? Sorry for all the questions, just want to get this all straightened out, thanks!

BOV may be a little too tight. The swoosh sound may be compressor surge.. Got that tapped correctly though. A .82 exhaust trim is a little big, I don't think you'll see boost in 1st gear with stock LS compression. Side port of wastegate usually takes vacuum after the throttle body. The spot you have it at is where people run their top port on the tial for a electronic boost controller.

Maybe your getting the pressure drop from the IC. you know what i mean...before and after intercooler pressure will be diffrent.

Apparently he say 6pounds once or twice but that turbo is so friggen big that it takes forever too spool. I can't wait to actually run the damn thing where its efficient - its gona be plain old mean!

The wastegate I thought the bottom vent (on a tial) went to before the throttle body and the top vents to atmosphere (like we have) or if you add pressure (using a boost contoller) you can increase the amount of boost. I'm almost positive the lines are correct however I dont' know about before/after the TB for the bottom line. It really dosen't seem like it'd make much of a difference if it was before or after the TB.

I'm wondering when this guy is gona spool with a 2L vtec motor and 10:1 compression.

Can't wait. Its already quick hehehehe.
