i have a t3/t4 turbo kit and i want to run it but i dint feel like building the block or head. how much and how long can i run it?

 

I will be running 7-10lbs soon on an LS with stock internals which should be similar to what you can run even though a vtec head is much better than the LS.

Just because a vtec head is "better" than an LS head, does not mean that motor can be pushed harder under forced induction.

Don't spread nonsense.

 

I have seen stock internals handle up to 15lbs on boost....but thats not reliable. I personaly would only boost stock internals to 7-10lbs.

 

Ok...for about the 1 millionth time, PSI doesn't mean anything. If you want to figure out your "safe" goals, you need to look at things in terms of whp rather than boost pressure. The safe range for most B series engines (vtec or not) is around 300whp; however, some have pushed further.

and 300 whp is....well, fun.


never had a turbo set up, but i hear it takes some getting use to at first, so i'd shoot for the 240-250 mark, get that down then move up.

It does take some getting used to. I had a 275whp/194wtq setup for a year and it was a blast. The following summer on another setup i made 305whp, then a month later i changed manifolds and made 315whp/216wtq. Its probably best to do it in little stages like that because you'll get used to the power and ALWAYS want more. Trust me...i had 315whp, but check the sig now. 315whp just wasn't good enough

...I didnt say he could run more PSI, I said it was a better head and nothing more...

and by "better" I mean it basically can rev higher more safely.

 

i used to run my old ls at 9lbs.

 

you really cant rev a ls vtec to ****..you still have to keep the stock redline unless you have the motor built. an ls motor doesnt like to bang 8k rpms..But it cheap power so...you dont really need to rev it to 8k anyway. with a good tune i say you could run nothing over 10 pounds of boost..

 

it also depends on the turbo, size of the turbo, ect......turbos have different efficiencies. ive seen RX-7s with a stock turbo push 10psi and only get 220whp and i had a HKS turbo and got that at about 8psi....really it depends on the TUNE. The Vtec head being better so you can boost more is the most unintelligent thing i ever heard.....putting a Vtec head on a LS raises compression which is the opposite of what you wanna do when you boost. Your tuner is the only person who can tell how much psi they can tune for safely. pick a tuner and buy the EMS they tell you to get and go from there.
