I have the extended bumper to bumper on mine. We've bought it on all our cars. So far, its paid for itself on minor issues here and there. Example, my dad's accord...we've had to replace the SRS main unit and the factory stereo. I remember the SRS unit was 500+ for the part alone plus install. The factory headunit was around the same installed I believe. And recently, the wipers started acting funny and their motors were replaces. So 3 things totaling well over 1000. We paid 800ish for the extended, money well spent in this case.

Nishant, how long is your bumper to bumper warranty? I'm not even sure if my car comes with that so is it possible to extend it?

I have 6 year 100k mile, they offer up to 8 year 120k or 130k not sure of the max. I paid about 1,400 for mine. If it takes 1,400 to buy me peace of mind then it's a good deal.

i've always had that weird feeling of not buying it too but always end up doing it. it paid off with my wife's accord. about 30 miles before her 100k was up the tranny went out. that incident has helped me to continue getting extended warranties.

Well, I trust consumer's report. According to their data, you're pretty much always worse off with the warranty than you're not.

You do know, businesses sell extended warranties on many different products (such as TVs, computers). Why do comission-based salesman get double (or a lot more) the comission when they sell extended warranties? My friend who works at Sears and he sells lawn mowers. He gets like 2% on certain ones and if he sells extended warranty it's like 4%.

It's obvious companies make good profits off of extended warranties. This is why sales people at every business will push for extended warranties.

Of course, there are cases where the consumer actually benefitted from it, but in most cases the consumers are paying too much.

I think extended warrantys are well worth it. I work at a dealership and I have seen its advantages. Honda is pretty good for covering mishaps under warranty. So take advantage of it......It will pay for itself eventully.

buying extended warranties are a waste of money. Read any car magazine ranging from road&track, car and driver, consumer reports. They ALL caution buyers from these extended warranties for a good damn reason.

What ever happened to fixing things yourself? I thought this was honda-tech...

did you read my post? lol

I'll say it again. If companies don't make good profits on extended warranties, why would every business (whether its a sony computer or a honda civic) MAKE their employees try their best to sell them (and get double the comission)?

Yea, people who purchased the extended warranty should NOT be allowed to post on honda-tech regarding ANY and ALL technical matters. Since everything should be covered in the warranty, take it to the dealer, don't come bitching for help here.

Default extended warranty

I have always had weird feelings about extended warranties. How ever I think they are worth it if you get a good deal on it. you can negotiate with them just the way they do you. Put it this way my wife and I bought and 07 lx sedan with 20k miles on it. the previous owner bought it lat 06. So i only had 8 months left on the bumper to bumper. So they tried to sell me a 5y70k one for 1400. I said no, come again. Well put it this way i walked out of there with a 8 year 100k for $879. oh yeah that is with $0 deductable. So yes they can be worth it

7yr/100k with $0 deduct which I paid $815 + tax for. Like I said I bought it because it has worked on our other 2 honda's (accord + CR-V) and the fact there was no tsb on the Si's tranny when I bought mine. If that thing ever goes bad, Honda is paying for it!

Overall, its up to the person buying the car to get the warranty or not. Theres lots of factors to help in the decision. I think it mostly comes down to money and how long a person keeps their car. I plan on keeping mine for a few years and I felt 815 was very reasonable

It was even on my old S2000. I bought the car used from a private seller. He had the extended and it transferred over to me automatically. The warranty covered my misfiring issue and also when my wiper/windshield washers decided to stop working.

I don't think the extended warranty is bad at ALL on this car. I would've gotten one as well if I hadn't intended on modding.

I've brought my car in at least 10+ times now just for rattles. The dealership told me once the warranty is up, it's going to cost me on avg ~$75 for their time to locate and fix the rattle. If I've had this many rattles now, I can only imagine how many I'll have come 50k, 70k, 90k, etc miles. At $75 a pop just for those, I think the warranty would pay for itself on just rattles.

I know at the end of my factory warranty, I will buy the extended unless I turn the car in for something else! I know with American cars *even ones built in Australia*, I would buy the extended when I buy the car! For my first Honda, I can honestly say I have had 0 problems compared to my previous car which I bought new!

Yes, I have had a warranty on all of my cars. It has paid for it self on repairs such as the alternator, ac compressor, and failed abs. This was a 2002 civic.
