HID Question on a 2001 Type R
Hey guys I have a 2001 Type R with McCulloghs 10,000k kit with stock headlights and I have a few questions.
1) How good are stock headlight projectors compared to aftermarket projectors when using HIDs or is it worth it to get TSX's
2)If I wanted to switch from 10,000k to 8,000k would I have to get all new ballasts and bulbs or can I use 8,000k bulbs with my ballasts?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

an aftermarket HID will look "ok" but it won't give you that sharp cutoff like OEM hid's in a OEM hid projector. You'll have some glare but its really not that bad. And all you would need to switch over to 8,000K are some bulbs. I wouldn't go with anything higher than 6,000K though.
^edit. wow you beat me by about 2 seconds. haha
The stock headlights are gonna give you about no width at all. its gonna be about as wide as 2 flashlights would be. Output will be pretty bad. you should really look into a retrofit with hid projectors. I went from aftermarket housings with a pnp kit to a bmw retrofit and the lights are now wider than a 2 car garage.
As for the bulbs, yes, they are interchangeable. there is no difference in ballasts from color to color. Just realize that at 10k, your halogen bulbs are going to give you about the same lm (about 2000lm). If youever took physics or chem, you likely learned about Beer's Law, stating that transmittance is inversely proportional to absorbancy. In this case, the higher color is the absorbancy, and the loss in lumens will be your lower transmittance. I would really recommend no higher than 6k, with 4300k being the brightest

I have a right up about my TSX retrofit if you want to search for it. I am too lazy to get you the link lol. Tired.
Retrofit is superior to stock projector w/aftermarket kit though.

Those plug and play kits are gay.... I have one and their output is nothing more than fancy expensive dazzling lights.

This is how it ought to be done.
4300k for the win.
