Rope trick to free crank pulley?
Hi Honda folks,
On my Volvo, the correct method of removing the crank pulley is to put 3' of clothesline in a spark plug hole while 90 degrees past TDC, then jam the cylinder and leverage against the crank pulley bolt. Sounds dangerous, but it works on an older, tough iron block engine. I did it myself not too long ago when my crank pulley failed suddenly.
Anyone done this on a Honda? Any methods you all suggest? Is the accepted method here to use the counterhold tool?
Thanks, folks.
Ari

The "correct" method. http://www.denlorstools.com/ho....html
I'm sure those other ways work, but this is what the "correct" method is.

Yep, this is the correct tool to use to hold the crank in place with a 1/2" breaker bar. Also, use a long extention on your breaker bar your going to use to remove the crank bolt so it clears the bumper/wheel well. You will need a pipe extention to get much needed leverage to break it loose.

I've used an impact wrench to do it.
I've also heard of people making their own crank pulley tool with a nut, a thick piece of flat stock, or a metal bar, and a welder. Here's a thread where some guy did it.
