Cheap Homemade Crank Pulley Tool

Okay so I want to change cranks from my hatchs' b20b and use it on this 92 LS motor I dropped in a 94 Integra... The reason being is cause 92 LS motors used a v-belt for power steering was was gonna change pulleys from the P/S but they bolt on differently... My hatch is a CX no P/S so its comes standard with manual steering
...
I really dont have alotta cash to throw around $40-60 since it X-MAS time
... So I made my own tool... Just like these guys did http://www.tegger.com/hondafaq....html
Used:
Broken Torque Wrench perfect hole for 17 or 19mm bolt *pictured (or a steel bar of some sort)
Quiksteel (like JB Weld) *pictured SPECS: http://www.derek.com.au/cargo.html
Sandpaper (Kinda rough)
1-1/2in. pipe nipple *pictured
Quick-Grip 53006 Micro Clamp

This is what the Home Depot had for me to work with

After I removed the threaded coupling

Quick grip

Most of this you can find at the hardware store...
First thing I did was sand down the areas that were going to have the QuikSteel applied for better adhesion when fully cured
Then I got my broken torque wrench (Wal-mart) and pipe nipple and had them held together with the Quick Grip Clamp ...

Then start breaking off chunks of QuikSteel and mix in your hand and apply it around the area where the Wrench and pipe nipple meet, I used a good amount just to be safe...




The label says it should be set in 15min. and that it should be hard as steel in 1-Hour, and also suggests to let fully cure for 24 hours, so I am not gonna put pressure on it till tomorrow... Please dont break on me
...
Here is the finished product...

And here is the 19mm 1/2in. Drive socket that fits perfectly through the hole of the busted torque wrench's broken mechanism thingy

I hope it does... LOL... QuikSteel is supposed to handle a good amount of pressure...

i think the chain wrench and actual crack tool are around the same prices ranges, but I guess if already had one it eliminates the task and effort making a homemade one

i think the chain wrench and actual crack tool are around the same prices ranges, but I guess if already had one it eliminates the task and effort making a homemade one

i have them lossen the bolt then tight it just enought so i can unbolt it at home

Any time i had a problem getting one of those pesky crank bolts cracked. I just set the number #1 at TDC. Then backed it off 90+ degrees, removed the spark plug from #1 and coiled some 3/8" dia. cotton rope into the #1 Cylinder. Then tried to set the #1 to TDC and crank away with a 4' persuader bar. Ghetto back yard mechanic way for sure. But I never had any problems doing it that way. All the valves are closed (no chance of bending a valve) and the piston can't reach TDC (crank isn't going any further) with the rope in the cylinder. Tha twas before I had an impact gun that would torque them off like a hot knife through butter.

Necessity is the mother of invention and dire situations inspire ingenious solutions. That's what DIY is all about. Your tool is kind of a product of this. You made a possibly useful tool out of a completely useless one. Keeping in mind that you didn't actually invent this tool. You took what you had and fashioned a similar tool that is a solution to fulfill a need.

To you the truth I wasn't holding my breath for that silly puddly or JB Weld to hold. I was interested to see if it would with that amount of tq. How much did it hold before it broke loose?

haha yea.. i remember big 10 took mine off with an impact gun that looked like it was pulled off a turret from a tank in iraq.
