Default After it is all over with, I will be riding a KTM

As most of you know, I have had a recent run in with the law and I have some major financial issues to deal with. I have possibly found a buyer for my Ducati and I have someone buying my Kawasaki KZ750. That will take care of my issues for sure and it will give me the extra ching to move back home. I already have a job awaiting.

Well while I was back home, I was talking to a friend of mine that owns a motorcycle motorsports shop. He has a new KTM SMR 450 that he is willing to let me take over payments on. It has a Dakar street conversion and a Moose stator and Sprint steering stabalizer with 2CT's installed and is ready to roll. I will be paying off the final amount of roughly $4500. So for literally less than half of what it was purchased for initially, I will have a SM with just over 250 miles on it with a spare set of slicks.

I rode it around while I was down in Charleston pretty much the last week and IT IS AMAZING. It is faster than my Monster up to 100 and it will get the front end up in every gear! I got an average of about 65mpg on it but ran out of gas once the first day riding it due to the fact that it does not have a gas gage. Simple fix tho.

I cannot wait to call it mine!

How can you ride a KTM when you're in jail?

hey, what can I say.....that thing is like a dirtbike on steriods with a headlight and sticky tires. That just spells nothing but tons-o-fun.

I have been doing a bit of reasearch since I got back from Chas. a little while ago and I have found that I can get a spare set of wheels for about 400 and get some semi tires so that I can take it off road. So if I want to take it to the trails, I can! Just slap the other set of wheels on it and go!

I am thinking of getting two spare sets of wheels so that I can mount the Bridgestone slicks on them and have some tires to use whenever I decide to try it out at the track.

I am amped about this thing

har har har peckerhead ......I just went to a holding cell for a few hours until I was arraigned. It was all over something completely dumb too. It is over with now and life goes on.

Anywho, I figures you would be all gung-ho in this thread because it was a KTM. You have to have some sort of experience with a SMR.

Yea, they are amazing bikes. And once you get to around 3-5k miles, the crankshafts like to break in half.

those motors do NOT like commuting.

I'd love to have a 560SMR with a welded crank.

hmmmm, now I have to go and do some reasearchin..............maybe they make a better crank for it. It will be worth it just for the fact that I will be paying about half what is worth.

Put some miles on it, and then get rid of it.

looks to me like KTM has solved the crankshaft issue in 2006. I did a bit of quick research and found issues only with the 2004-2005 models. The one I am getting is a 2007 model built and sold in 2006. Kevin also switched the plastics to the KTM orange ones instead of the black plastics. It comes with the originals.

I have also seen that it is a common thing for the 560 SMR owners to install a 2006-2007 450 crank in the 560. Sounds interesting.

Good to see your still rolling, but I still think a 900cc ducati will smoke a 450cc
supermotard any day. Cool bike, dual sports are alot of fun.

The Ducati may be faster....hell I dunno.

I do know for a fact that the SMR450 FELT a lot faster. The SMR has 15 ft/lb of torque over the Ducati M900 and only 45hp. The M900 has 86hp and 59ft/lb tq. It is a sport tourer.

I am not after a super fast bike, if I were, I would just hit up Kevin and get a second hand track prep GSX-R600. It would be super quick and could be had for very cheap, since Suzuki gives him a new stable of bikes every year. KWS has a factory Suzuki team and a buttload of privateers that ride on his team in the super advanced class.

I dunno, I know that I will be able to get this particular KTM for a VERY reasonable price and I do not want to pass it up. Plus the fun that this thing will give me in the Lowcountry of South Carolina will be a LOT better than any supersport has to offer since the roads there are as curvy as this line _______________________________

I've been contemplating that myself. Can't decide between a KTM, Husky, or DRZ.

I was thinking more along the lines of the 610.

Technically, you would have to replaces Swedes with Italians, in the context of this discussion

If you're going to do more street riding, go with the 610. It's built for the road. The 450 and 510 are more track oriented.

Not necesarily, I would rock a Husaberg over the other two

BTW, yesterday I was at a light and on the other direction I saw a KTM 950 SM. As it leaved the light, the front end came up so effortlessly lol. The guy was barely giving it more than mid throttle. Damn torquey machines lol.
