another tranny question...cricket like sound.
i just had the tranny pulled and inspected...turned out great. also intalled a new exedy(daiken) oem clutch, oem flywheel, and throwout and pilot bearing. i didnt do the work but had it done by a mechanic. there is only 300 miles on the work and when the clutch pedal is let out all of the way, at 1500 to 3000 rpms(driving or sitting still in neutral), i get a fast repetive cricket like chirp(just like valve ticking but very high dog whistlish or cricket chriping). as soon as i rest my foot on the clutch pedal(presses down maybe 1/8 to a 1/4 of an inch, the sound goes away. with the pedal in the sound goes away also. does the clutch just need to be brken in( they say 750miles and i only have 300 on it). the sound is very high pitch and a very fast repetitive rythm, not continuous. has anyone ever heard this before? thanx in advance.
hmmm. all of this was done on a 00 em1. it was adjusted after the cltuch was installed and it is also self adjusting. ive never heard of this problem b4, especially with all new parts.
yup new throw out bearing and pilot bearing. i think it may be in my clutch adjustments. heres another thing i noticed while experimenting with this problem. if im driving down the road(in one of the 3 lower gears or in neautral at 1500 to 3000 rpms) and i am giving it gas to keep a constant speed, i can here the crickets...well if i lightly rest my foot on the clutch pedal to take up the free play while still applying the gas(to ensure the clutch hasnt yet engaged) the crickets go away. this is what leads me to wondering if my adjustments are off. the mechanic did adjust it but maybe the free play is off?
well tonight i bled the whole hydraulic clutch system and adjusted the free play by eliminating pedal play and just allowing free play in the push rod. this still didnt fix the noise. the noise still quits when push the pedal in just far enough to the point of zero free play. so now im thnking that i need to adjust the push rod...? maybe lengthen it(push the pedal out) this would cause the rod to seat furthur in the master cylinder. can anyone shed some light on this? thanx

i have all of the old parts and all work was done by a small shop owner who is a family friend. the TOB came with the oem exedy/daiken clutch kit. Heres an update: last week i pulled the slave cylinder and greased the pin and contact point on the fork with lithium grease and also the pivot bolt and around the release spring inside the tranny with lithium grease. beofre doing this i eliminated the sound by allowing no free play in the clutch pedal( i know this is wrong but wanted to experiment). after i lubed everything up i readjusted the pedal to allow for some freeplay. took it out for a hard ride and the noise was gone. when i get back home next week i am going to correctly adjust the clutchpedal and put some more miles on the new parts and see if the noise comes back. thand for all the help so far
