You are not supposed to pry them appart, but that's the only way
I have been able to separate them.
Use alarge flat screw driver and gently pry on one side then move to another spot and try it again.
The trick is to go slowly and not try to separate them completely on one spot.
also, make sure to remove ALL the 12mm bolts around the casing.

He means the M8 bolts....
Look and you'll see some "tabs" where the case halves don't have the exact same profile. Those are the areas where you need to gently pry. Sometimes it's necessary to use a soft punch (something like lead or brass) and directly whack those tabs. The Hondabond is what's holding it together.

heheheh

yeah, i got that thing open, i put my scissor jack on the clutch housing, then jacked it up against the engine mount *pop* it opened right up.

do i need some special snap ring pliers to get that snap ring off? i went at it for about half an hour last night with my channel lock snap ring tool, but i still couldn't get it.

THe snap ring really doesn't come "off" - you need to expand it far enough for it to slide off the bearing. The snap ring stays in the tranny housing.
I use an old pair of inside calipers - the kind that open and close like a compass used for drawing circles. I put the inside calipers in between the legs of the snapring, pull the legs apart and stick the threaded part of an M8 bolt between the legs to hold them open. All the tension from the snap ring keeps the caliper and bolt in place while I separate the halves. You'll need to expand the snap ring as far as you can - that means the small bent ends need to be touching each side of the access hole.

i couldn't get that bloody clip around the bearing when i put the case back together. so far the case seal is fine and i should be starting her up soon. the clip was less than a 1/16th from the place its supposed to be so I dont think it will cause much trouble, or it will pop in on its own. any thoughts?

Take the tranny fill plug (I think that's the one) out, and put a socket in the hole against the side of the diff housing. Make sure you can get a couple of threads on the fill plug. Screw it in and it will open the seal on that side. You can pry gently now, use something soft like a wood wedge.

The clip should be locked in...that is what centers your gearstack and holds in place. Makes sure it is locked in before running it

Could be a disaster

i know they wont be lined up right at first, but when you think aboutit the gearshaft cant go any lower into the engine, and it cant go any further back because of the 5th gear housing, ill bet she will be fine

Good question......

Not locking that clip in is like not bolting up the transmission to the block...I mean you have a couple of transmission mounts holding it in there right? That should hold it

Take the trans out...lock it in like its suppossed to and that will answer all.

Maverick from Top Gun would do it

nice, it shot things through the bellhousing into the flywheel, which turned it sideways and it jammed into the engine. The engine wont crank now with it all removed. Ive bent something. let this be alesson to ye!
