Weighed my sunroof.....
I have a spare sunroof that i dropped out of a parts car. Its the sunroof, motor, frame and all.
Alot of people act like this is the reason why the si's weigh more, so i decided to see how much it actually weighs.
I weighed it at 26lbs with a bathroom scale. Thats not counting the extra metal thats in the roof of the car for the sunroof, but just to give you an idea.

the part that is actually in the roof is heavier I believe. I should weight them both.
In any case, a ring of sheet metal and some lexan is much lighter.

I talked to a guy about buying a fiberglass sunroof delete panel and he told me the entire apparatus weighed just over 52lbs. The new one weighed like 8. So 40 lbs saved, give or take what I can't remember exactly. There are more differences than just this with the Si/DX weight differential.

I have weighed my both my 1988 B16A SI and 1988 B16A DX at the track. With the same motor and weight reduction mods, the weights were 2120 pounds (SI) and 2060 pounds (DX). The only differences I can see between the DX and SI that would affect weight are the rear wiper, rear swap bar, and sunroof. And the sunroof is going to account for the lion's share of this difference. It just CAN'T all weigh only 26 pounds.
Other factors...
Beefier seats.
Possibly more sound deadening.
I think the HF has lighter bumper supports (those are over 20lbs each on the Si according to my bathroom scale)
I'm not surprised that the CRX roof is only in the 26lbs range. The Si Hatch roof I would assume weighs an additional 8 lbs of so because of the glass. Does anyone know how much it weighs exactly?

Doors for all EFs are the same weight as someone weighed their '88 doors and I weighed my '91s....70 pounds for all. They all have the side beam as well.

What exactly was removed and what was left? Do you have pictures? Were the parts that remained in the still removable or were the spot welded in?
Thanks

dosnt the HF have 2.5 mph bumpers..and the si has 5mph...i'm sure there are tons of small differences on the chassis..and in the doors...etc that account for the extra 100-200 lb difference between the 3 ...its definitely not all in the sunroof
I was just assuming there is a little bit more metal in the si's roof than the dx/hf's.
My sunroof didnt work, so i dropped the whole assembly out of a parts car.
