Default cant figure out this sound, help please

there is some sort of clicking sound, like a fan is hitting something when it spins, only when i boost. it is always there when i hit above 4psi and there from 1psi and up if im at WOT. i used to think it was the whole intake assembly shaking as the turbo kept on spooling hard, butt i took off the filter today to just drive around the block, and it was still there. checked the IC piping if it was hitting any part of my car, and its not that either. any other ideas?

Do you have an electronic boost controller? If so, the sound is probaly the solenoid valve for the EBC working. The soleniods make a clicking sound when they work to control the wastegate.

are you sure it is only when you boost? i had a sound like that but it was only at a certain rpm (took me for ever to figure it out)

i have a clicking sound too .. only in low non-boosting rpm's though and at a certain throttle position. sounds like something is loose or even an exhaust leak but i haven't check it out yet

covertfi: what was the root of your sound problem?

it's possible that it's an exhaust leak. i had a sound like that when i first had it installed, and it turned out to be the exhaust manifold gasket went out.
just a possibility

no bc at all

well, hadnt thought about that....i'll tr to get into the higher rpms and not boost to see if thats it.

my idea leads me to think that higher rpm's and boost means the turbo sucks in more air, and as airflow increases, things tend to shake more, esp piping. cant figure out though, dammit.

i have determined it was a cracked pressure plate. someone on this forum had the same problem. i would only make the sound at 2k rpm. exactly

i still have not replaced my clutch, i will find out for sure in about a month

ok, heres the update. i drove it at high rpms and low boost (kinda hard to do) and it doesnt make the noise, soo....... it only happens under boost. i made sure by revving it up to redline on neutral and it never made the sound. what can this be?!?!?!

dude, i had this vibration that I could not figure out. finally realized the compressor housing rubs ever so slighly against the engine webbing. I am going to cut the webbing down a good bit before I put my engine back in.

If you have an open wastegate...it makes an audible noise under boost. On my buddies car it sounds almost like a clicking...

i do have an open wastegate.... any way to test out if it does?

edit: we didnt hear it on the dyno though, and an open WG sounds like a fluttering, not a metal tapping metal right?
