Default HELP! My 06 Si trunk is stuck! will not open!!!!! :'(

ok, i have 06 Civic coupe. I know lately i've sorta crammed some laundry baskets and other junk in my trunk almost to capacity. maybe this damaged it somehow.

but yesterday it seemed fine. today I press the button and i can hear the trunk clicking inside, but nothing opens. I try pulling on the trunk while pressing button and nothing.

I tried the lever on the side of my seat and it pulls up but nothing "catches". again, nothing happens with the trunk...just the same clicking noise..

I know that my trunk is not full right now and there shouldn't be anything caught in between or anything.... I tried stopping abruptly while driving forward and backwards to see if it would shake anything loose. still nothing.

the only thing abnormal from yesterday was, because my trunk was pretty full, when I pressed the button the door only opened part way because a laundry basket had caught something...but i was able to manually open the door. hopefully I can get this open!

what to do?

I'm out of warrantee- i called the dealer and of course they want me to bring it in.

could i call a locksmith?

thank you for your help.

why don't you go into your trunk via the back seat and see if you have something caught

sigh, i've tried everythign.

ive taken most of the bottom seat cushion off, and that doesn't seem like it will lead anywhere either.

there has GOT to be a way to fold the seats without getting INTO the trunk.

what if a kid gets stuck in the trunk? and doesn't know how to push the little button on the inside?!

or a pet?

your kid plays a prank and locks your pet inside your trunk...and it gets jammed.....what then?!

help!!!!!!!!!!

will the dealership be able to do ANYTHING?

i don;t get what the point of a valet lock is.....if you're locking your trunk....but the valet guy who has your key can simply unlock it next to the lever for the trunk release....

anywyas, I"m having the same trouble:

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums...37835

CAn anyone help me do what this guy did? unscrew the seat enough to stick his hand in there to get to the release lever. to fold his seats down...then go in the trunk and pop the trunk open....

I Just went out and looked and that space between the 40/60 split is TINY... can;'t even put my hand through..... the only part of the seat cushion i was able to really get off was the bottom part....and the metal frame shows....I dont' even know where to begin with the screws...

Thanks!!!!!

I just wired a sub into my trunk and ran into the same issue... Luckily, the cables that the release latch pulls to lower the seats are right behind the backs of the seats. Try looking up the diagrams...

http://www.hondaparts.com

enter your info or VIN and you can see a breakdown of the rear seats. I unlatched it with a coathanger... maybe i just got lucky

just my $.02

wow.... you stuck a coathanger through your back seats and somehow pushed the release latch for the seats?!

it takes a little bit more force than just a push from a wire!!

how did you get your hand through the 40/60 split? it's soo small....

Thanks,

thank for the link.

looks confusing as hell... dont' know where everythign goes

The Valet KEY (grey one) will not unlock (or isnt supposed to) the trunk lock.

As for your situation, the dealer should fix this problem. The trunk should not become jammed even if there is a crapload of stuff in there. The latch mechanisms are supposed to be completely shielded from objects. I'm going to assume after/as it clicks you pulled on it to make sure your crap wasnt hanging onto it?

There is a harness on the inside of the trunk that if its "overstuffed" it will unclip and not open

manually open it with the handle on the inside of the cabin

IF THAT doesn't work....

flip down rear seats and empty trunk

IF THAT doesn't work

Bring to dealer

i have successfully taken out the seat bottom then unbolted the bottom left and right bots of the shorter seatback. this allowed me to squeeeeze underneath, and use a hammer to push the pulley for the fold down of the rear seat...then i was able to crawl in and try the emergency latch and it would not work..

what harness are you talking about? unclip? hmm...maybe if i re-clip this mytrunk will work again. Please help!

Thanks,

The "clip" is for the remote to electronically open it
if you damaged the cables (which is sounds like u have OR simply are hindering it with ****....that you'd need to recheck when its open.

The clip is located on the BACK part of where the rear H badge is underneath and in the skeleton of the hatch.

I had a similar issue with my 06 SI. Funny thing is I was also carrying laundry in my trunk! Trunk was closed, the remote key to open the trunk and the switch in next to the drivers side seat wouldn't do anything. I could hear the mechanism in the trunk trying to open, but it wouldn't open. I found in some forum that there is a way to put down the rear seat by flipping a switch using a long screwdriver accessed underneath the passenger side child seat hook. From there I was then able to crawl into the trunk.

From there after about an hour of figuring out how the trunk unlock mechanism works, I found out that all that happened is that the mechanism got pulled forward about 1/4 inch. With it being pulled out it wouldn't allow the piece of the mechanism that unlocks the lock to hit properly, so it was trying to unlock, but no lock was there to "hit". Real easy fix for me, just push the mechanism back in place and it works like new. I think the cause was the laundry basket caught the top of the mechanism and pulled it forward.

Anyways, I hope this might help.

The trunk latch can break with little force and you are locked out. No way to get in without removing the seat. If you have a flat you are out of luck. I am pushing for a recall after spending 200 at dealer on my 2006 Civic with 36k miles. I am looking for others with this problem. Please email me with details.
