2017 Civic Si Trunk Issue
Hi All!
Extremly new here but I've run into a huge issue! I just bought a 2017 Civic Si 4dr and the other day after golf I placed my clubs in the trunk and closed the lid as usual. Upon getting home I tried to open the trunk, only to find out it wouldn't! I tried holding down the trunk release button on the key, pressing it quickly, pressing it multiple times as well as trying the spare key. The release button on the trunk itself would not open it nor would the button on the driver side door panel.
I looked up up the issue and found out there is a secret fail safe for the trunk behind the driver side rear seat. Phew, this would save the day...wrong. This too did not work. I brought my car to a Honda dealership and they could not find a fix.
After spending time of the phone with Honda's tech team in CA they came to a conclusion the only way to resolve this issue would be to cut a hole in the trunk, somehow get the trunk to release and then replace the trunk entirely. Luckily this is all under warranty still so I do not have to pay for a dime of this. I've owned the car for a month so this is a bit of a bummer and I'm not very happy because my golf clubs of all things are stuck in the trunk!
Has as anyone encountered this problem or heard of anything similar to this? I searched this thread and many others and couldn't find anything. I appreciate any advice or help in advance!!

Re: 2017 Civic Si Trunk Issue
I would print that thread out and take it to the dealer. May or may not be the same issue, but I would ask if they can use the back seat trick before cutting a hole in the trunk.
If you go to the last post, you will see where I did it on my daughter's 06. I would love to see pictures of the latch when they replace it.
I wonder if the Gen 10 Honda is using the same latch? I just popped the trunk and looked at mine. There is a cover over the deck lid so I could not see all the latch, but the part sticking down that I could see sure looked a lot like it.
