How much hp when not in vtec?
How much horsepower do you really get when ur just driving and shifting around 3-4k rpms??? I was just wondering. I believe its around 130hp no?? or does it depend? for example for a b16, gsr, or itr motor..
Not only depends on engine, it also depends on the condition, tune, and mods to the engine. But to answer your question in a nutshell: Not very much.

geez that sucks.. sometimes my gsr motor just feels like an ex d16y8 motor while normal driving.. the real power is in the vtec but who stays in vtec all day? LOL

From my dyno chart with a bad fuel line and an AF ratio of 16.6 I had right around 100hp under 3000rpms on a 98+ spec ITR motor. I've fixed the fuel problems and I have alot more power now though, so I'm sure that number has increased. Nut Honda engines have always been terrible for low end oomph.

it pretty much is a d-series motor, untill VTEC engages.

When I had my b16 dyno tuned for part throttle it barely put out 30 whp. You have to keep in mind that while driving around town you are only using 20-30% throttle at most.

It takes so little hp to keep a Civic moving at 70 mph, it's surprising they give them so much to start with.
Depending on tires, body style weight.... probably 20-30 hp to maintain speed.
My Insight can't be making much more than 20 hp at 2k rpm in 5th, yet it trolls right on down the road with the throttle half open.

My H23 prelude cruised at less than quarter throttle. Any more than that would start to push you back in your seat... I loved that car's short tranny and torque curve. It wasn't like the torque from a 7.4L big block but it was getting there
In all seriousness, it doesn't take much to move our light cars.

If its a 1.6 sohc vtec think of it as a dx 1.6 until the crossover. Same with the b16, feels the same but the DOHC may have a better power band since it DOHC, like a ZC before crossover.
well I like my throttle to feel very sensitive.. a lil push and it should go.. but for eks you have to use the gsr throttle cable for the stock gsr manifold.. if I had an itr or b16 or b20 I can use a b16 throttle cable and it would feel more sensitive when u push down on the throttle... the gsr one you cant really tighten it to make it sensitive unless u get a skunk2 manifold or an itr manifold or something.. but I do feel alot of torque though
I dont know about specifically around 3-4k rpm, but while not in vtec for a b-series i would guess 15hp below your peak power, and for a d16 i would say 8-10hp less than peak power.
cuz I remember one of top classic top gear videos on youtube about the integra type R and the guy that drove it says that the b18c is only 130 below vtec but once vtec kicks in you feel the 195hp..

this sounds like a more acurate estimate
VTEC is nice but it only switches cam lobes right?
i doubt you're gaining 65hp from new camshafts

Its far more than 15 hp on a B-series. Driving my car (sig) to 8000 rpm without vtec was significantly slower than with it. I'd say VTEC adds about 30-35 horsepower during a dyno run. I have had this dyno'd because the VTEC was't working properly on my car but its too long ago to remember exact numbers.
