Default How do you adjust idle on carb?

Just picked up my 1st carbureted vehicle, and I have no idea how to set the idle on the carb.

It's an 86 civic. 1.3L 4spd. No tach, so I dont know where the idle is, but it sounds like its idling at 3K-4K rpms.

Some help please?

there should be a air/fuel ration screw on the body of the carb somewhere... also make sure you have some MINOR play in the cable when its fully relaxed, if the cable is to tight you may be pulling on the butterfly slightly causing a fast idle

any idea where this is? I dont want to adjust the wrong thing!

pictures? please? This thing runs well, just idles VERY high. I know the carburetor was messed with at some point, so I think the idle just needs to be adjusted, and she can be driven.

Since no one has said it yet, http://www.redpepperracing.com/forums/index.php? is the best place in the world for info on your vehicle.

From the manual at the top of every page go to the carbureted section and read the pages on the automatic choke, fast idle unloader, and choke opener. You need to make sure that the choke is opening and that the fast idle cam is unloading to let your idle fall down to where it is set with the idle screw. Be sure to check all of your vacuum lines for leaks. Once that is done, you can inspect and adjust the idle mixture and idle speed as described on pages 11-24 to 11-27. If you have done all that and still have a problem then post your questions in the Technical-->Carbs forum. Good luck!

I have an 86 honda sedan, it has a 3bbl keihin carb on it and yesterday I went to drive it around and it died at the red light. I pulled into a parking lot to adjust the primary idle adjust screw on the back of the carb next to the coolant hose. It wasn’t there, at some point it fell out, I’m trying to find an aftermarket one online or get one off of another carb but designs are different and I need some help, some guidance from fellow shitbox owners. No offense, I take pride in keeping my shitbox living.
