Odometer not working? Speedo as well

Odometer not working? Speedo as well
92 stock lx civic 209k miles. Speedometer has been wigging out for like 10-20k miles, never really cared though. Just recently check engine light #17 came on, VSS sensor....but a little while after that came on my entire odometer stopped working as well, and my trip odometer as well. wtf??? you guys think if I change my VSS sensor(as I will soon) that my car will continue to record the milage as its suppost to?
