keys stuck in ignition

keys stuck in ignition
i bought a 96 ek hatch shell that was automatic. They tried to steal the car so they screwed up the ignition so i bought a new on but the key wont come out, anyone know why? (the new ignition came out of an automatic 97 ek hatch)

take a look at the auto to manual swap DIY. It will show you how to remove the mechanism which locks the key in the ignition
Or if its already in the car, unplug the battery. Either will work
