OEM LSD making lots of noise. is this normal?!?!? PLEASE HELP
ok i just put a jdm b18c engine and lsd tranny out a japenese 96 integra type r in to my 93 del sol. when making turns at low speeds it makes a popping, clunking, almost binding sound. is this normal? it can be felt through the wheel and actually seen at the wheels. i changed the tranny fluid with genuine honda fluid, and bought brand new(not remans) cv shafts and it still makes noise. when turning at higher speeds it does not do it, and when warmed up it doesnt seem to do it as much. is this normal for an oem lsd? i was told if i put limited slip additive in the tranny that it would go away but i dont want to put any foreign fluid in my tranny unless i know its gonna fix the problem. can somebody please help me out with this???
definitely not normal...i was going to say check your axles, but youve already done that...
Hard to tell if it is normal or not with just your discription. A sound recording will realy help here. If you modulate the throttle input during slow turn, this will happen or if you are in the wrong gear, this also happen. Try going with smooth throttle input to see if it sound and feel better.
NO this is NOT normal. An LSD should indeed place some resistance on the wheels, that's its purpose, (and so you might feel it a bit in the steering wheel when making lock-to-lock turns) but it should do this very smoothly. Its not normal, like a lot of people will say.
I know this is on a completely different vehicle, but my mom's jeep was hard to drive because it was jolting around quite a bit when parking and etc. and was making noise like that, but after getting it replaced its super smooth now... I would have yours looked at.

Are you sure it's an OEM diff? The noises you describe sound indicative of a clutch-pack type LSD.

that is corect, the oem lsd will not make any noise, there must be something else inthere like KAAZ, ATS or Quaiffe.
On my ITr 99 jdm its silent, which has the helical LSd oem.
Jack the car and rotate the wheels, it should rotate against each other if OEM Helical, if KAAZ etc, its both forward or both backwards depends how u rotate.
