Hondata Intake Manifold Gasket and FIA - D16Y8 >>
For a Hondata intake manifold gasket on a D16Y8, what do you do with the FIA (Fuel Injection Air) holes on the manifold? The gasket does not allow the head to mate with manifold.
I was just going to remove the FIA system since I dont see a use for it on a OBDI setup. Can I just plug the holes in the manifold, cap the port on top of manifold, and remove the FIA control value?

The air injection holes can be plugged by any means you see fit... steel epoxy, jb weld, etc. I believe even running an OBD2 ECU you can do it without negative consequences.
On another note, I thought Hondata came out with a revised gasket to compensate for the air injection holes, but I could be wrong. The older gasket that was advertised through 2000 was later modified to "through '98 models." I think the newer one is up to 2000 since older D16s with no air injection won't be adversely affected by the extra gasket material.

Thanks for the reply... interesting note about the newer hondata gaskets. The one i have does not have the air injection holes. Maybe i got one of the "older" ones.
Either way if the FIA system can be removed on a 00 running OBDI then its coming off.
thanks

You have to plug each of the 4 little holes above each injector, putting a cap on the vacuum nipple will have no effect. There may be an adverse effect IF you use the stock 99-00 ECU. The engine may not idle correctly (or high enough) on cold start ups. I would get the right gasket.
Not running a stock ecu. Hondata OBDI S300.
I plugged the holes on the performer-x with some 4mm screws and a small amount of JB-Weld. If I have problems with idle, I should be able to adjust the IAC with the S300. I will let you know if I have any problems but not anticipating any since pre-98' did not have an FIA anyway.

I think he's referring to inspections. Not sure if OH does that sort of thing, but both NJ and NY are pretty strict when it comes to inspections regulations.
