Default My first DC2, have a question regarding rev limit

Hey,

I'm pretty new to Integra's, but not Honda's. For some reason, it seems like I've owned every other model Honda but the Teg. I've owned 4 Prelude's, 2 Civics, and 3 Accords. Anyway, I just picked up my first Integra(other than a DA I borrowed from a family member for a month a few years back).

It's a 98 LS, B16B Head and internals with a B18A1 bottom end and tranny. I/H/E - AEM short ram/DC Sports Ceramic/Tanabe Racing Medallion(Very soon to be Apexi WSII). It's a pretty basic N/A setup with AEM Cam Gears, STR Fuel Rail, P28 ECU chipped by Skunk 2 with a 10k rev limiter.

I absolutley love the car, it's pretty quick and handles like it's on rails. I'll like it even more after this weekend with the arrival of the WSII. It's my DD and gets 30mpg religously. I really don't drive it that hard, but I like to know it's there when I need it.

My question is, what would be a safe rev limit for a stock B18A1 bottom end? The LAST thing I want to do is screw up my motor. I've gotten it up to 8.5k without an issue, but I don't have the confidence I would with a GSR or Type R bottom end. Like I said, this is my DD, so reliability is more important than gunning it everywhere I go. I plan on buying a swapped EG with a GSR or Type R motor for that. What's your guys experience with LS/VTEC rev ranges?

I would attatch some pics, but I can't figure out how.

i was going to say no higher then 8, but have seen stock ones pushed to 9 with no problems. and don't forget the stock bottom end for a ls was never meant to rev that high. so no higher then 8

I would not recommend revving higher than 8.5k

Would make me feel a whole lot safer, LS bottom ends are not made to be a high revving engine.. like the CTR.

don't forget the b18a redlines at 7, not 8. if you're going for absolute reliability, i wouldn't go above 7. anything above that is pushing the block farther than it was designed to.

That's what I was thinking, which sucks b/c it makes great power, but I can't really use it. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to boost it!

that's the exact reason why i discourage ls/vtec's whenever i get the chance . vtec blocks are designed for the 8k redlines while the non-vtec blocks aren't. if you're looking for reliability, like a lot of people here are, a stock b18cx will work better for you than a b18a/b with a vtec head for that reason.

i would not suggest revving that high assuming you have a stock valvetrain and stock b18a bottom end. I wouldnt suggest taking it past 7.

anyways you dont have a DC2, you have a DC4 btw.

it's only bullshit until the same guy keeps scamming people and changes his username after each time so he doesn't get caught.

youre kinda right, technically b18c1 means on USDM GSR. you need to include the Type R.

DC2 - GSR, Type R
DC4 - LS, GS, RS, SE

Hope you know DC2 and DC4 are chassis code not engine code.

It's what the guy above me said.

On-topic: I wouldn't recommend going past 8000rpm.

GL, sounds like a sweet setup.

well I own and LS vtec 98 with almost the EXACT same stuff you have just a little more and different, but bottom end is still stock.. and I can grab 8.5k easy in mine, but it stops making power after 7.9k so if you REALLY REALLY wanna find out where to shift and rev at dyno/tune it.. and you'll see when and where to shift.. instead of just guessing. thats my personal thought for you!

I wouldn't take it past 7500. The block was not desighned to be pushed that far. The engine stops making power at about that point.
And if I am not mistaking the
DC2 is a coupe, and
DC4 is a sedan.
Those are chasis codes not engine codes. Engine has nothing to do with a chasis code.

Things need to be set straight here.
Stock LS/B20 redline is 6800 not 7000.
Chasis codes are as follows: (USDM's) 94-01's
DC2=coupe GSR, Type-R both came with VTEC motors, GSR with the B18C1, and Type-R with the B18C5
DC4=coupe RS/LS/GS all came with B18B1's non VTEC
DB7=4 door RS/LS/GS same motors as coupes
DB8=4 door GSR same motor as coupe GSR
