Default Tried EVERYTHING and still NO VTEC ! = [

Ive tried running new wiring , a new sub harness, & new vtec selenoid and no vtec.

The codes i am throwing are code 9 which is cylinder position sensor and code 14 which is eavc.

The motor is a B16A OBD0.

The car / harness is a DPFI to MPFI'd harness.

I am at a loss and ready to go Single cam again because i have not had vtec for almost 7 months now.

I had vtec when i took it out of my 91 si but as soon as i threw it into my 88 hatch no vtec.

any help ? cause im cluelesssss

Its got to be in the mpfi wiring if thats the only difference between cars.

And fix your codes, mine didn't work when I had codes. No matter which ones.

x10 i'm pretty sure the ecu won't engage vtec if you have a code. fix those first and tell us what happens

Youre right, it wont.

Fix the codes, you'll have vtec.

You need to fix the other codes anyway, why not just deal with them first

one can only be 100% correct. and yes, i am 100% correct that if the car has a CEL and is throwing codes VTEC will not work.

its your wiring. check it at the ECU side and the distributor side.

Your speedo can work but if the cluster is screwed up you can still throw a Code 17. The cable runs from the tranny to the cluster, which makes the speedo move and and then the cluster sends a signal to the ECU. Im assuming you have a speedo cable and not an electronic VSS. Im 90% sure thats how the wiring works there, but i dont have the manual with me. So your speedo can work and you can still throw a VSS code if the VSS sensor/wiring in the cluster is screwed up. Or maybe its pinned wrong at the ECU.

And vtec WILL NOT ACTIVATE if youre throwing codes, UNLESS youre running a vtec controller or something similar. If its running automatically through the ECU, it wont activate, i dont care what anyone says, its one of the conditions built in. Even if youre throwing an O2 code vtec wont activate.

Try another known working distributor if you still get Code 9. Its possible that you bought a bad dizzy even if it was new.

i realize it's different, since my vss was electronic, but when it was going out on my prelude it worked intermittently before just quitting. it was more obvious b/c the cluster got an electronic signal, so the speedometer would stop working when it stopped getting a signal. i'd see if you can check that circuit.

it's a safety feature. if the ecu doesn't know exactly what's going on (for example cylinder position, code 9), it won't engage vtec. honda is trying to save your motor! fix your codes, wiring, whatever, then it should work fine
