Burning anti-freeze? 91 LS
Hey, I’ve got a 91 ls, and lately I’ve smelt what I thought was burning anti-freeze, granted I saw no smoke, so I checked the level and it was low so I filled it and thought nothing of it because the smell went away for about a week then it started again checked the level and it was low again, so I checked the presser, no problem there so I bought a new cap filled the fluid again and just yesterday I smelt it again checked it and EMPTY. I’m out idea’s, I can’t figure out why I only smell it when the fluids low or why the fluids even low. I don’t drive it that hard at all. O and I am sorry about any grammar or spelling errors I’m not the best writer.
How old are your hose?
I had the same problem and you might want to try this. Fill it up again, and squeeze the hose and see if you see and coolant coming out. If not, ride around till the temps reach normal. After they reach normal ride around for a bit more then go home. Pop the hood and again squeeze the hose with a towel, the upper hose then the lower hose. What you might see is that one of the hoses will have a small hole. The hole can only be seen at this stage when the hose has expands a bit.
Since the car has been running, the hose will expand just a bit opening the small hose. My hose were expanding way too much because they were old, so I got both of them new. Like you I was wondering where was it going because I saw no smoke, it was small enough to come out when it cooled it was gone and couldn’t see it or hardly couldn’t see it. Since they were expanding way more I didnt need to squeeze, but when it cooled I didnt see it. New upper and lower hose and problem was fixed. Also, check the heater hose...and change even if they dont have a hole..might as well if you are going to changed the other hoses.

headgasket needs to be replaced, or you have a bad hose or clamp.
If a clamp isnt tight enough it can leak. if its leaking you should be able to smell it. then try and trouble shoot. If there are no leaks. Your head gasket is f'd up.
