Engine VIN stamped on the engine??? Searched, please help.
So I guess the search feature is temp offline?
My girl just bought a 96 DX with a 00 front end, the guy claims the motor was swapped out with a year 98. So he says 180k on the body, and only 80k on the motor.
I know the VIN is supposed to be on a sticker on the left side of the valve cover, but it's missing from there.
Is there any other VINs on the motor, perhaps stamped onto the block?

Yes d16y7 which I know comes in the DX but also the LX?
I really want to find a VIN on the motor so I can run a Carfax report and see if it really was pulled from a Vic with 80k.

Not sure what you mean, but if I run the Carfax on the engine VIN, it will tell me about the donor car. Meaning, how many miles are on it, if the donor car was salvaged, etc.

UPDATE*********
I jacked up the car today and looked for the VIN stamp where you guys suggested.
I can't find anything!
I am starting to get nervous, because we bought the car and now the motor might be stolen?!
Can somebody PLEASE post pics of where the engine VIN is, so I can see if I am looking in the wrong places.
The motor is dirty as hell too, so is it possible to be covered up? Or should it stick out like a sore thumb?
HELP!

If you get a service manual it should tell you where all the vin tags are on the car and engine. But yea like koda said,if it runs well it shouldn't matter.Just give it a tuneup and it should be fine.If you can't find any vin tags on the engine and the engine is stolen then I don't think you have much to worry about considering it can't be proven stolen if theres no vin number to be read. Then again it might be illegal to have a engine with no vin plates.I don't know but it shouldn't be a problem. There should be some numbers under where it says D16y7,maybe those could help?
