Fmax's downpipe
I am about a month away from purchasing a FMAX turbo kit. And I had wondered should I just have the shop install the kit and keep the closed loop wastegate dump or should I have them fabricate another downpipe which is a little bigger and run a atmosphere dump on the wastegate. Any help will be appreaciated and if anybody has pics of there engine bay with FMAX please post.
Advice...ditch the MF2 and save yourself a couple hundred bucks... Have them specially fabricate a dp for you...the one that comes with the kit sucks!...I'd personally go closed looped, but thats your choice..
everyone's saying the mf2 sucks....i've been using if for 8 months now and about 7,000 miles and its been fine. I'm finally going to dyno tune it w/ wideband tomorrow.....I'll post results.
and yeah, the dp design is a little weak....I had mine made 3" after it bends and I had them reroute the wastegate to the end of the dp. Its much better like this....but I still wouldn't go open wastegate.....too loud.
I currently am running a JSRC and have decided to go turbo, so I am going to have this shop where I live do the install for me. I know what I am about to say is crazy but bear with me. I have seen it with my own two eyes. They use an FMAX kit, headgasket, and VAFC, and two days to have your car. The owner of the shop currently has about 13 cars running this set up with the mf2 and not one has failed yet. The owner gaurentees you 12,s or a thousand dollars back! on a stock block. And I know it sounds crazy but I have seen it with my own eyes even on singles. All of these cars are daily driven 12lbs set ups, please tell me what you think any comments will be greatly appreaciated.

I had Scott at f-max make my DP open loop, they can make it either way. I highly recommend open loop because of the way f-max fabs closed loop, If it isn't a problem with smog checks in your area.
yea, i'm thinking of having mine redone open loop as well. It really isn't all that loud if you've been driving around with a 3" thermal exhaust you'll never notice the difference~!

well I am not really concerned about noise because I don't drive the car everyday. currently have injen intake, dc 4-1, test pipe, greddy evo, o2 simulator, act extreme, and clutchmasters flywheel. My exhaust is heidously loud because of the testpipe so I am use to the noise, am looking at it for more of the performance aspect of things.
where are you getting it installed in SA? I haven't really heard of any good shops in town since I have left and even when I was there. I may have to check it out just for grins when I get back in town.

CLOSED-LOOP: An intersting finding that we have recently found is that we gained an additional 44 HP at 9 psi of boost by simply discharging the wastegate into the atmosphere instead of discharging it back into the downpipe. All other dyno sheets on this site that compare with DRAG are derived with the wastegate discharged into the downpipe and will be tested for possible gains with atmospheric discharge. Atmospheric discharge is not a set-up that would be allowed within the constraints of CARB testing, so closed-loop will be standard in the kit. For those of you who race off-road, know that to make the change from atmospheric to closed-loop is a simple bolt-on/off of existing parts and requires no major modification to produce the additional horsepower. In other words, no more money need be spent just to make more power. We are in the process of testing an alternative wastegating method that will be incorporated into the kit to make a racing only set-up easily convertible for track-only use."
