Turbo....
i am planing on doing this build here really soon, i have read about 5 fourms to diy. to start off i have a 01 honda civic ex coupe d17a2 and i have some questions.
i also plan on doing if not all but 99.9% of work, i wana build it from ground up also.
1-what size turbo should i get and what brand(trim size and all).
2-were could i get if not alll but most of the piping.
3-i read somewere that you could keep stock ecu, this ture?
4-anything special that i should also know about?
thanks for all your guys (and girls) help,
-cody.

do a k-20 swap dont put a turbo on it. there is really no point. but to save you time and money buy a car that is already set up for perfomance. just use your em2 as a DD (daily driver). sorry bro.

Hmm, had a good week so far today so ill play
1) depends on your power goals and what your using it for.
2) you COULD get dezods IC piping, but i personally know of many people who have had it NOT fit so DIY it or take it to a shop. youll need a welder so have one on speed dial.
3)you can keep the stock ECU if you use a piggyback. Its recommended you go kpro if you boost. AEM EMS can be used too but kpros way better. why do you want to keep your stock ECU? emissions? besides that, i dont see of any other reason.
4) anything special.... hm. i dont think your ready to turbo yet if you dont even know what goals you want to reach. and as for 99.9% of work, i doubt it. youll need a welder on call and a tuner.
I say you get a GT35R and see if itll spool on the D17
oh ps, ignore the k swappers and stick with boost

If this is your intent... then you shouldnt be asking these questions, you should be researching them. Otherwise, we're doing a very large .01
All of this has been written up on here, I know this, because I wrote it. One post answers all 4 of the questions you just asked.
If you're not even to the point where you've picked a turbo, or even narrowed it down, then you're in no position to start this yet.
Figure it all out, come back with a plan and a 99.9% certain parts list. At least make it look like you're trying....

my end goal is just to get some more whp im not to concerded about psi cause i know that a d17 can only puch about 350 as max with everything just looking for a little bit more power, and to the other one, i have narrowed all of it down iv been doing reseach like no other i have basicly a book of papers lol but what i was asking about the size is theres been alot of debate of what i should put in (and boil yr post was amazing about the turbo's thanks helped out alot)
I have a 2004 civic ex with a t3/t4 turbo on it....The kit if fully custom and I did all the work myself...I am running 6psi and it is daily driven...I was going to go with the t25 b/c it spools quicker, but the t3/t4 seems to put out more power...so personally I went with the t3/t4 with a .48 trim...it was a tight squeeze but if you have the right tools you will be able to get it to work
