Default b18c1, 9:1 pistons, forged rods, block guard, limits?

What's going to be the hp limit on a setup like this, stock sleeves?

I'm thinking i'll want to top out at about 400whp.

I would agree that 400whp is a safe and good goal for that setup. I would ditch the block guard though.

yeah you can get 400 on stock sleeves .. but how long your motor lasts is another story.

I would say stay around 300 whp and it will be fairly reliable.

btw, that is assuming you have little experience with a turbo setup, otherwise you wouldn't be asking.

I have plenty of experience with turbo setups and tuning, but I have no experience with honda motors.

Why ditch the block guard? Doesn't it prevent cylinder "wander" or whatever it's called?

So 400whp is doable on stock sleeves, using stock bore then ? I'm not sure I want to go through the expensive of some stock replacement style sleeves, and definitely not that of darton mids.

A majority of the research ive done with block guards has shown for them to be trouble. If you have the money benson, ERL, golden eagle, etc sleeves are awesome and very rarely fail. The setup your going with is fine since the pistons/rods are for the most part the weakest point as you increase the hp/tq.

I'm just curious where the turning point is and the sleeves begin to float and cause issues. If I can push 400whp or maybe a little more on stock sleeves with a good tune, that will be cool.

I tried to search through the FAQ's but there's nothing similar to my question.

I'm thinkin I'll have to price out the stock replacement sleeves and call my local machinist to see what he'd charge to install 'em, just in case I want something like 550whp.

Then again, 400whp in a 2500lb fwd car is a helluva lot of power.

Well search on here for laskey racing....they can do an entire honda block for something like $3300. Thats benson sleeves, rods, pistons, bearings, oil pump, water pump, assembly, shipping, etc. If your serious about it, that would be the way to go and who I would reccomend.

I saw one of his motor builds, it's very impressive. It's also significantly less expensive than a motor build for my last turbo project (350z), but I'm not looking to spend that kind of money.

This is more of a budget boost project (while not skimping on necessary items).

I think I should also stress that, while I like peak numbers, I'm going to maximize the powerband as much as I can for useable power on the street and track. If some things come thru like I'm being promised, I'll be prepping the car for some road racing at Sebring, alongside a buddy's 500+awhp GT-R. (well, not alongside, but, ya know.)

If thats the case, then going with rods and pistons will be perfect for sure.

You should have no problem reaching 400whp on your current setup. Depending on your fuel grade, you could make more power, but on 92 octane, i would have no problem pushing 400whp daily.

I have a similar build with higher compression (9.6:1) and i'm shooting for 450whp on E85. Your tuner will be able to give you an idea of what he/she thinks is a safe range for your setup.

Hmm......then I figure if I run something like 8.5:1, 450whp shouldn't be out of the realm of safe possibility then?

good stuffs. Too bad there's no e85 available around here. But yeah, I'll run straight 93 octane. 100 unleaded is $7.50/gal here, ridiculous.

Of course, for high boost I could throw on some water or meth injection.

I'm at 404whp on 81.5MM B18C1, with forged internals. This is at 17psi on pump. It's completely doable.

beautiful. That kind of power in my ej6 should propel me into low 12s on street tires (If I can drive it well)

I wouldnt drop the compression any lower than the 9:1 you had planned to use. The Water/Alcy injection is a good idea and will allow you to make even more power on pump gas safely.
