Default my shortblock build, your opinion please

i recently got a free b16a block so i plan to build it since its a lot cheaper than building my b16b block cause then i dont need custom rods (i want to keep it 1.6). here is my plan:

stock sleeves
eagle rods
some forged 9.0:1 pistons (91 oct here in cali )
fresh bearings
BDL block gaurd
minimal bore hone if needed

im hoping to wrap this all up for ~1500 is that reasonable? i figure

~700 for rods and pistons
80 block gaurd
100 bearings
~200 bore hone
and the remaining amount goes to assembly.

im shooting for 350+whp on pump gas, am i on the right track here?

p.s. ill be using a CTR head, the turbo is a BB t3/tO4E

i have no problem not using one, id just like to know why? are they just pointless? is there ever a time when you need one? cause ive seen stock sleeves go over 400whp and after that everyone just gets aftermarked sleeves, are they just like a gimmik?

i work at a shop so i get cost on all the parts do you still think that my budget is too low though? i mean is there some parts im leaving out? i know a fully built blue printed/balanced sleeved shortblock can cost way more but im just trying to keep it simple.

dunno there are so many odds and ends to a build u never know. **** i spent 3500 for just my bottom in ... benson sleves .. and all .. but that was to push 350 horse. i wouldnt really want to push that much power on a stock block. Or well stock sleeves never know how long the motor is going to last. For sleeving alone it cost a grand. So for 350 horse i would say a lil more of a budget.. will all the oem part , gaskets and all id give a lil more. But since u work in a shop i cant really talk i just have dont all work my self and ordered off line the cheapest place i could get . but no at cost **** lol....

i think you can get away with $1500 on your block build. im pretty much doin the same thing except with a gsr block. and working at a shop and getting cost does help lol... but i do agree with saving your money on the blockguard and get the oem headgasket and arp headstuds... you should be safe in the 300-350 whp range w/o the guard

Well my is already done with lol waiting on tune and i have spent tons of money lol just from researching and builing i think it will cost in my own opinion . but hey who know i did a full build sleeves and all everything so down the road i can push 400 or more on the block safe. i have seen like 200-250 for that price but not 350- and still hey who knows how long the motor will last stock.

you'll be fine. People are making those numbers on stock longblocks ... a piston/rod setup is definately going to be good for something as low as 350.

Just make sure your tuner knows what he's doing.

You're right on trakc with everything, including all your prices.

To be on the safe side, you might want to pick up new oil/water pumps and a timing belt as well.

I wouldn't skimp on anything just to meet your 1500 budget, but it seems feasible to me.

i know what you mean but then i think of the stock sleeve guys running 400whp! or the 100%stock block guys running 300whp!! plus with the b16a i figure less side loading so the stock sleeves should hold up better *crosses fingers*

plus the shortblock set up you have is probably good for like 600+ assuming its balanced as well.

Yeah earl hooked it up nice.. sorry he is gone got a nice benson block so it can hold tons of power.. so when i only put 300 or so on it can handle it like a stock motor.
