Default Oil filter question

For the filter, is it oil out from the block, out the central screw part, and in the block through the surrounding inlet, or the other way around?

Wow! finally found this on the web, looking up stuff about oil filters and engines ect..

"(remember oil always flows down the outside of the filter and returns up the middle)"

yup, installing an oil cooler. I have the cooler mounted sideways, and the inlet and outlet are vertical. I'd rather rather have the fluid flowing from the top down, instead of having the oil push the fluid back up to return to the block.
