start up hesitation
hey guys,ok so here's the deal every once in a while when i start my car it would crank but hesitate to turn on, so i checked and replace dizzy rotor, cap, fuel filter, cleaned intake, manifold and throttle, spark wires are fine, spark plugs are about maybe 5 months,my car has 92,000 miles and i believe i still have the original battery it says honda lol, so could it be my battery? or how long does it take for the alternator to start failing if it could be a contributing cause? thanks...
If your worried about the Altenator or Battery, you can take it to an Autozone and they will test it for free.
Another thing that can go with time especially in ludes, is the main relay. Not sure if its an issue on the 5th gens, but its defiantly an issue on the 4th gens

what do you mean by fuel pressure bleeding off...?
I'm having the same issue, my car hesitates to start. I figure i need to replace my distributor cap and rotor. I already replaced fuel filter.

Is it a slower than normal crank, or just an extended crank at normal Cranking RPM

The Fuel pressure bleeds off through the regulator or the pump (usually the regulator) The Pump then has to rebuild pressure in order to start.

If its your original battery it doesn't necessarily mean its bad. I am assuming you have an 01' judging by your avatar.
If I were you I would look at the positive terminal connection and look if you have any white buildup. If you do, clean it up by scraping off the buildup. I actually had the same problem so, I cleaned up my terminals and now it starts without any hesitation.
This is from my experience. Good luck.

I've ran into the same problem with my old s10 and my 95 prelude i own right now. The s10 was so bad it wouldn't start some times and it ended up being the fuel pump, not sure if it's the same for my prelude right now. I've heard it's very rare for a prelude fuel pump to go bad.
