Default oil pressure issues

So i was out abusing the H23vtec yesterday... ran 1st-4th up to about 7400, and now we have fun issues.

at WOT my oil pressure steady. however at cruising or coasting throttle, the psi dips and bounces back irradically 5-20psi...

for example, when at full throttle, it has 50psi at 3k, when cruising or coasting at 3K, it dips to about 30 and bounces back and forth irradically.

Haven't yet checked my gauge sender line, which could be the problem...

has anyone ever heard of this?
Maybe an issue with the oil pump/pickup?

put new sender line on gauge, still same issue.

more car info:
93 BB2
H23A1 block,
H22A head,
255,000 miles
Oil pressure for the last 2 years has been VERY consistent 10psi idle and ~60psi above 4k @ 175* oil temp

Also, when engine drops to idle, it dips to about 400, then catches itself, dips to about 500, then maintains about 700 after a few seconds. And this started exactly at the same time as the oil pressure issues started, so it is not an existing problem.

Vacuum before the "incident" was 22inHg at idle, and now it's more like 19inHg.

this is wierd. The engine isn't making any abnormal noises, power feels normal, VTEC works fine, oil level is at the full line.

also for the last month or two, i noticed another wierd thing with the oil press.. at the SAME RPM, wot registers about 2-4psi higher than closed throttle.

The oil cooler o-ring is seeping lightly, but i couldnt imagine that would be enough to intermittently leak off 10-20 psi

So far my ideas as to the causes:
1. main bearing
2. gasket where strainer bolts to oil pump
3. cracked strainer/pickup tube

any ideas anyone?

update:

there is a 1/4" hole in the screen in the strainer, and a few filings.

definately main bearing issue.. closer inspection revealed many filings of bearing in the bottom of the oil pan+strainer.

rip + tear, here we come!

i found a good used h22a4 short block in craigs list locally for $300, i'm afraid i'd miss the torque of the h23vtec tho.. so i can't decide.. what do you guys think?
