to reassure you, it would be the oil filter gasket, i had the same issue on my h22a, which was leaking from the oil filter gasket splattering oil on my o2 sensor and making a lot of nasty fumes that smelled like but, and now I have to replace my o2 sensor

High heat resistant silicon sealant (liquid gasket) The stuff I have is grey, but some are different colours depending on how much heat they are good to withstand.
If using the sealants make sure mating surfaces are super clean. Wait till motor is cooled down, degrease mating surfaces, and than use an alcohol based wipe to make sure the sealant bonds properly to the metals.

So you are saying its the rubber gasket on the oil filter? And the reapiar is to seal the rubber piece with mr. gasket silicone?

to answer your original question, i believe that it's the o-ring gasket for the oil cooler. you could check this after you've confirmed that it's not the oil filter gasket.

Oil cooler O ring, not the oil filter gasket. The oil cooler is what the oil filter screws into. The oil cooler itself has its own gasket between it, and the block.

It could be oil filter gasket too, that would be a nice easy fix. Either way, drain oil, remove oil filter and check its gasket. If its ripped or squished or missing replace. If its fine I'd assume its your oil cooler gasket / o ring

Also, sometimes when you remove the old filter, the gasket will come off the filter and stick to the block. Verify that your new filter doesn't have two gaskets. That will definitely cause a leak.

That might have been a poorly manufactured or perhaps cheap oil filter or something?

I've heard of people over tightening the filter and demolishing the gasket causing
leaks.

This happend to you personally?
