Default Apexi Filter Worth It?

I was searching around and found a universal filter Apexi offers that will fit my AEM SRI. I found some folks who reviewed this filter on 8th gen Civics, but not much here. Some people had to use a coupler to make it work, but they're advertise as having a 65mm ID. Do these filters not have an actual flange? How do they mount? Has anyone else run this on different intake systems?

Here's a good article:

Just get an AEM dryflow or a K&N. Unless theyre the same price, then it really doesnt much matter IMO

Reading that alone and locking at the carbon filters is enough to make me want to buy the Apexi Filter.

Agreed

Although at the end of the article, it says "if you can trust the original data source...", which was a Japanese article in Revspeed Magazine. Being a Japanese product, of course they want it to be "the best".

They're going for $65 online- not a bad deal if it can be cleaned. I heard soap and water works fine. So who else has any experience with this filter?

I've always just washed them out and put them back on when they dried. Never been a problem for me. Especially considering how little you have to worry about that. 30,000 is about two years for the average person.

Yes. On my EG. On some ebay pipe it worked fine for me. I hadn't researched it before though.

So does the filter have a flange that slips onto the tube, like a K&N, or did you need an adapter piece? The pics I saw on the 8th gen had the filter bolted to a plate, then coupled to the tube.

edit: upon futher reading, I learned that this was a MAF adapter piece that the filter is mounted to. So my question now is- how can I mount this to the AEM tube? Check out the pic on this site, http://www.frsport.com/APEXi-5....html

There is no flange, like a K&N or the dryflow that I have now.

Mine had a hose clamp. I can't tell you much more about it really. Was rebuilding my buddies DSM when he slapped it on. Hose clamp. Cheap tube that I had to weld over a hole on.

OK, I figured out what I was wrong about.

They make a 65mm filter that uses the MAF adapter to clamp to the intake tube. The FLANGED filters they make are 70mm, 75mm, and 80mm. 80mm would be for a 3" tube. The AEM SRI I have uses a 2.5" tube.

Would a 70mm flanged filter clamp securely to a 2.5" tube? It's about 1/4" larger ID than a 2.5" flange, like the filter the kit comes with.
