Hello all i am asking this because i have a y8 swap in my 95 hatch and when i use a p28 ecu it sputters really bad and kind sounds like popcorn. No joke. But when i use a p05 it runs fine . I am using the dizzy from a d15b7. Do i need a dizzy from a z6??Oh and i don't think the vtec works when i use the p28.???Help plz.

do the math. figure out what the cel is for

Mine does the same thing, but that's because my car doesn't even have a MAP sensor (for SOME crazy reason). It drives fine with a p05, cept white smoke comes out the tail pipe, but with a p28 my car sputters like crazy if i try to keep it at a steady rpm or mph.
And a non vtec dizzy won't bolt on a vtec head. It's slightly different.
check the codes and get back asap

check the internal harness of the car as well as the engine harness make sure you have the wiring for vtec..... i know some of the older cars that didnt have vtec engines werent wired for vtec

I have all my sensors and everything hooked up. The car is a 95 si so it is wired for vtec and if a non vtec dizzy cant bolt up to a vtec head then how is my car running with a dizzy from a d15b7?? Anyways i will chech the cel today and get back.
I'm not sure
I had a d15b8 head and when I put on the d16z6 head the b8 dizzy didn't fit because the mounts were on slightly different angles. z6 dizzy fit perfectly tho

First of all, "vtec dizzy" is very misleading. Only the OBD1 VTEC heads are different than all the rest of the heads. But the OBD2 VTEC heads use the same distributor as the OBD2 non VTECs and will in fact bolt up to the 92-95 Non VTEC heads as well.
Now to answer your question. Are you even setting the ignition timing?! When you put the Z6 distributor on the timing will be way off and you wont have enough adjustment to get it to spec.
Did you know that the ignition timing map for a Z6 is absolutely horrible for the Y8? The heads are completely different. The Y8 is a much more efficient head requiring much less timing. By using the Z6 timing map, you are essentially lighting off the mixture so early that peak combustion happens as the piston is still traveling upwards. In effect you are fighting it on the way up. You're making less power than a stock Y8.
