Emissions legal OBD2 tuning solutions
Hi my firsy post on here. I'm Mike, here's my question.
From the research I've done I came up to a conclusion that if I want to tune my car I need to switch to OBD1 ECU. The problem is here in Chicagoland area when I go to pass emissions they just plug something into the OBD2 diagnostic port. And it won't work if I switch to OBD1 ECU.
Also searching around I came upon Apexi Power FC. That completely replaces the stock ECU and comes with Commander FC which allows you to tune you car.
Does anyone know if my diagnostic port will still work?
The Power FC also costs like $1000!
Is there any other cheaper solutions?

You could use E-manage, you would not have to convert to OBD-1 and could still pass emissions.
Although it is not as popular as other big name EMS out there because it is a piggy back, however it does allow you to tune ignition and fuel separately. (Most piggy backs can not accomplish this.) This is only possible if you get the extra harnesses with it though.
But before you go out and spend your money you might want to find out exactly who is going to tune your car and what they are familiar with. Ultimately that is going to have more of an influence on your selection for EMS.
