just installed a gsr swap in my hatch and know have some problems
tune, ur gonna need it. maybe ur tune sucks, and i suppose u hook up everything right? about ur speed sensor, try replacing it. if it doesn't work still, check ur fuse or either ur alternator is not good. alternator can cause it too, if that still doesn't work, it might be ur plug, ur electrical might not be touching each other(i don't think it can be that though since u have check engine light).
If your check ingine light is on with the key turned on the first position then its a wiring issue, if the light comes on when the car is started its a sensor/running issue
First, of course the guy you bought it from had no problems with the engine, they never do until you install them.....lol
Second that is the first I've heard about the v-tec being link with the speed-o, only rpm's(I mite be wrong thought)
Third v-tec will not engage if there is no load on the engine (not moving)
as for it dieing, it sound like the MAF sensor or IAC valve(you can clean this one). where did you get the chipped ECU? On ebay they are poorly chipped ECU's plus they are all just copies of fuel maps and v-tec points. To properly tune/chip an ECU it has to be done on the fly as in on a dyno for that individual car. or spend a crazy amount($1,000) for a spoon, mugen, skunk, ect.. tuned not chipped ECU.
I moved to japan a year ago so I got out of the honda seen (cause no one drives honda's here, unless it's a van) so sorry I couldn't be more help.
