bad vss = no vtec

My sensor on my wiring harness got some corosion in it. If that's your problem, you can find a another plug, or throw some coca-cola on it. It will eat away at the funk and serve as a temporary fix

Hmm, I'm throwing code 17 too. But, my speedo works and my VTEC still works. Although I'm almost sure that my speedo is off.

Make sure the wires are tight on the harness. I had one of the wires come loose and same thing happened to me. Also make sure harness is connected (on differential side).

what if i am getting vtec, my tach works, along w/everything else(temp/gas), could it be the head on the speedometer itself? hence time to replace the unit?

it was the alternator sp sensor fuse under the dash. it cause my CEL to come on and my speedometer to not work.
Problem: o2 sensor wires were cut and touching the ground of the car.

Same thing happened to my vss, except the corosion got so bad that it ate away at the actualy pins on the connectors. Hopefully it didn't get that bad.

I have been having the same problen , replaced VSS and it still jumps and works half the time. If it was the alternator fuse wouldn't it not work if it was blown?

Ya, same thing happened to me with stock single cam, but it was just a loose wire on the speed sensor plug.
