Default info on garrett t3/t4E 57 trim

looking at different turbos for a built gsr motor, not going with a Ball bearing turbo but am looking for fairly quick spool as its just a street car.

looking at t3/t4E 57 trim, compressor is AR 0.60 and turbine AR -.48

want to have the ability to turn the boost up to run 400whp, will the 0.48 exhuast kill the top end that much? any one used one ?

I wouldn't ever use such a small exhaust housing even on a stock block GSR, let alone a built one. If you're looking for fast spool, there are other ways to achieve it, but by getting the .48ar, you're merely killing your top end power potential. Get the .63ar and you'll still make full boost a hair over 4400rpm. If you want faster spool, find a variant of the 57 trim like the GT3255b (journal bearing). TheShodan can tell you more about it, but on my setup with it and an SLS shorty, i made 315whp 216wtq at 10psi and had full boost by 3800rpm. The turbo is also capable of over 400whp. It may be something you want to check into.

the 57 trim is good for 450whp i'm pretty sure. the turbine a/r comes in other specs too. http://www.vsracing.net is where i just got my super 60 T3. they have really good deals there. i havn't used it, but it's a pretty common hybrid turbo. i would say get the .63 a/r option for the turbine. i bought a small turbo just cuz i'm doing my project for the experience and i wouldn't want a fwd car with over 250whp anyways ( i won't reach 250 if i keep the block stock). just my preference though

.48 exhaust side is gonna choke your motor bad on a GSR.. even on a D16 they are very small.

ive never understood why people want quick spool and 400whp, if your gonna have that much hp, you want the turbo to spool late, and longgg, otherwise your just gonna be burning rubber, especially with a gsr tranny.

yeah i see your point, well ive built the motor so really think it would be a waste running what i could of done stock with a quick spool, think i will prob go for .63 turbine , see how that goes

It might do 450whp...but thats not gonna be very efficiently. The IATs are gonna be really high and your talking about pushing the turbo to its limits. Have you considered a Precision t3 sc61 w/ a .63 a/r and a stage 5 wheel? From when i used it I thought it was a pretty quick spooling turbo but could also make some nice power and at a pretty reasonable price... Check it out.

When your compressor is too small, you get crap IAT's. When your turbine is too small, you end up with exhaust gas reversion, meaning a much higher than normal % of your intake charge is actually exhaust gases, which can't be reburnt for power. The whole point of a turbo is to stuff as much fresh air in the cylinder as possible.

You may want to just go with the 50trim t3/t04e with a .63/stg3 turbine. You'd still spool fast, and make close to 400whp if you have a nice intake mani and 3" exhaust. FYI one of my friends had a B16a with a 60trim T3 with a .63/stg1 turbine. It spooled fast and made 250whp with just 9psi. If it was a street car (mostly), I'd suggest the .48ar. If it was used on the track often, I'd go with the bigger housing.

You mean you have a .48 housing too? Definitely change to the .63. It's as simple as getting the housing for about $150. Don't have to rebuild the turbo like if you were changing turbine or compressor wheels.

I had a E .57 with .63 on my built GS-R for many years. Absolutely loved it. I had over 20psi by 3500RPM. It is a really good match IMO. Gave me exactly what I wanted.

I just bought the same turbo and I was wondering if it would be fine to run on a b17a1. I wanna run 280 to 350 whp on stock internals

This thread is from 2008...

And to answer your question, yes it will work, but a 50 trim would probably work a bit better. Next time start a new thread
