Garrett T3/T4 hybrid turbo...can someone help me on making a wise choice???
Like the post says...Is the Garrett T3/T4 hybrid turbo with 60 trim compressor housing and .63 A/R housing good? I want to boost my B18C1 in my 97 GSR and I was looking at all the turbos at CheapTurbo.com and that one caught my eye pretty good. My friend recommended that ne because he says it'll give me some good power.
My question is, would this turbo be good for daily driving? I want to make around 350 whp...if it comes out to more, then fine..I know for the street I'll have to bring down the boost, which is fine by me....
Is this turbo overkill for my engine?
Should I go for the same turbo but with a 57 trim and .48 A/R?
What advice do yall have?
BTW, I will be building my bottom end with a JE or CP 9.5:1 pistons and Eagle rods.

too big. IF this is for daily driving.
I have same turbo in 57 trim and I do not get full boost until 4700rpms. It has MONSTER top end but for daily driving, something with a smaller compressor housing will spool up faster. I recently bought a .48 compressor housing for my turbo to see If I like the faster spool

So u r sayin a 60 trim would be too much 4 the street? Then what would u recommend.....the .48 A/R with 57 Trim?

Call them up. Talk to Kem. He knows his turbos inside and out, but will give options not on the web site depending on your goal and specific application (drag or street)
They not only have good turbos and pricing, but awesome customer care, tech and support -- Call em up.

I agree with this except for using the .48 A/R. It actually increased a lot of ambient heat and loss of efficiency for the GS-R. The GT3255 wound up being one of the BEST for your turbo choice. Though the 57 Trim is fine too.

I have the cheapturbos.com Garret T3/TO4E 57 Trim .63 A/R in my stock head/bottom end 95 GSR. Daily driven and I hit full boost at 4500RPMs.

Actually I think the .48A/R would be fine for his setup.

i would use that turbo, same one i used.
Forced Performance T3/T4oe, 60 trim, .63ar with a stage 5 wheel.
I made 355whp/244wlbs @14psi and ran my 11.75 on it, all with pump gas.
its a great turbo. Mine is up for sale if you are interested, looking for 450 with the oil return fitting, as i'm going bigger.

So its reliable for a daily driver?

perfectly.
turn the boost down some if you want more traction, but with traction bars and motor mount inserts with some nice Potenza's my car sticks pretty good after 2nd gear. and really its high reving motor, so i tend not to drive around at 2k rpms, so i'm normally between 3k-5k, and power really picks up in the 4k range.

My previous setup was based on a 60-trim T3/T04E .60/.63, I loved it! Even with a stock Revhard DP and 2.3" catback, I had full boost before 5k and excellent top end. To tell you the truth, I kinda miss it with this laggy *** SC61 under the hood now
It's an excellent turbo, go for it

I'd go with the smaller of the two if i could do it again. I'm using the 60 trim right now and while it does have decent power delivery, it could be better. i would have to say that it's not the best choice for daily driving. try the 57 or even the 54 trim ( i think that the 54 actually flows more ).

how many pounds are you running that it doesnt hit full boost till 4700
