hi all, noob here, advice needed.
hi guys, im from the UK, and wanting to build a turbo civic, and there is little information on the uk boards, (turbo civics are not very common over here).
im not a total retard, i have been drag racing a renault 5 turbo for a few years and know tuning basics, its the honda lump im un-familar with. me and my freinds here got our renault 5`s down to 11.9@122, this is from a 1397cc engine! with 8 valves. so not bad going. anyway, im moving on and have been reading up here a lot past few weeks FAQS and so on, and see you have some very powerfull cars, which seem to be fairly reliable (our renaults are very weak!)so honda seems the way to go for me now being a drag enthusiast.
i like the sound of the sohc d series engine, and fancy trying one of those, i know there not as productive as the b series, but they appear simpler, which i like, and i want to leave it standard internalls for as long as i can get away with(i only change things when actually break them, as you here so much bullshit over here about parts only being good for xxxhp, which i have proved wrong many times now, and lastly the cars are cheaper to buy over here (civic esi there called here with the 1590cc sohc lump)and you guys still have some very powerfull ones even in sohc form.
so my questions are,
1. is the d-series worth doing, (im looking for mid 11`s from the car)to start anyway
2.what would be a good manifold (maybe choice of 3) i deffo want cast!
3.do you d-series guys run standard c/r when turbo charging, or you add a thicker head-gasket?
thanks in advance guys, ant

very small! my name on there was crazybri too....
yeah i had heard of you on there and used to do a lot of reading on the boards but not much writing. quickest my r5 could manage was 13.3 on road tyres like. But i used my r5 as a DD and felt i was paranoid watchin oil press and water temp gauges every day i was driving to work lol
i ended up gerin a 18k mile 3door vti, which compared to the r5 feels SLOW! but my plan in buying it was to turbo it, and also stay with the stock internals for as long as poss. Im just sourcing all the parts now, ive got hondata s300 for management, and if i cant find some decent parts on the marketplace that somebody is willing to ship to the uk i will go with a treadstone kit. That basically just comes with a decent turbo (choice of garret), cast manifold, wastegate, downpipe etc and none of the other boll0x that you dont need.
Once you are no longer a trial user you will be able to PM people who are selling on the marketplace. there are $hitloads of stuff for sale on there, and with the exchange rate. cheap.
Have you got yourself a car yet? or still deciding on B or D series? please dont tell me your after a mad swap into an R5? lol

hehe, no swaps into r5. no not got car yet, i did origianlly think b series vti, but there expensive to buy, and i only want a pod "dog" it wont be my daily car so didnt wanna spend 2k on the car itself. can get 93ish civic esi for nowt. maybe i could buy that, and buy a b series motor and do a transplant, im just unsure if i`d also need to change looms etc then, and as ive no experiance of these cars, would be hard work!
do you know what honda engine the rovers use? i know a lot of rovers use honda engines, but am i right in thinking its only d series in the rovers?

Im not sure on the rover engines..... i think that was a rover k series engine that was developed by honda but i didnt think honda used these engines theirselves. Arnt the rover engines dohc? if that is the case they must be a lot different than the dohc honda's.
Your right about the price of the vti's too, with close to 100k miles on them they are still fetching good money.
You would have to change looms with the swap also, good thing about ecu's tho is if you go with hondata in a standard ecu it doesnt matter what ecu you are using, only that you get the correct wiring harness either obd2a or 2b to obd1. And again, price wise with the exchange rate it works out quite well.

I didn't know it for awhile, but when I looked at my engine code, I started searching on the internet. I've turboed it and it's great. But people always says it's very similar to the F20A4 and the H23 and the F22, but that's absolutely not true! It's has very different exhaust flanges and so on;-)
