Boost Flutter Wastegate Junk? Turbo SOHC
I have a cheap xs power wastegate and at full boost 24 psi it will flutter up and down 5 or so psi so i took apart my wastegate and inside the wg the gasket has a small hole that looked melted almost. I am wondering if that would cause me to flutter like that and if so maybe would a nicer tial wg eliminate the problem. I currently have a Big Blue Spring and a Small Blue spring in the wg and am going to get retuned in about a week jw some suggestions. Thanks
Thanks for the input but has anybody had the problem before and pinpointed the diaphram to be the source of the problem? ill probably just go by a tial and post my results...more replies please

really damn i just went out and bought a brand new tial wg... how much boost r u running and does it seem like ur dumptube dosent stay open or is it after u hit boost u hear the flutter
im running 27 psi now, it flutters under full boost, anything over 28psi. boost gauge fluctuates back and forth from 25-30psi. it could be tht im just over running the wastegate or the bov though. or could be comp surge
Going from a ebay WG with a torn diaphragm and springs that usually bind in the housing to a fresh TiAl - it should fix most of your boost flucuations. But so might a new diaphragm. SSauto actually sells a thick nomex replacement for ~$15, TiAl sells theres for $50-80 IIRC and should fix.

what size wastegate spring do you suggest using with 24psi and a manual boost controller?

ok, thats what im running... a large green spring (38mm)
i was just wondering why my boost gauge flutters like crazy when i hit full boost.. the hondata logs show boost holds pretty steady within a few hundredths of psi. i guess maybe just shitty gauge?

probably...or there may be a slight leak in the boost gauge line
