i want to buy an ep3 but im just wondering the pros and cons of them were? are they pretty quick, reliability and all that jazz? i appreciate any help. thanks
Search owns you. You'll get about 20 responses about how they're ugly and slow. 20 responses on how they are unique and have a cool shifter. And then a big fight about which is better, the DC5 or EP3. This has been covered a thousand times before.
Well lets start this off right then!!
Buy the EP3 because the RSX is for college girls and they are everywhere.
I don't see college girls driving the EP3 but there is this little old lady that lives by my friend that drives a white one. I'm ok with that though.
(Sorry, couldn't resist)

I could say homosexuals who like she-male **** drive Ep3's, does that make it any more or less of a car?

The problem with EP3's is that almost, not everyone, but almost everyone that gets them likes to tune or comes from a previous generation Honda that was tuned and had a DOHC VTEC engine, then they get the EP3 and they wonder why they feel the car is slow or not fun to drive, then they have to do an engine swap, or maybe they knew this before getting the car and are already prepared for an engine swap down the road.
Everything else about the EP3 are pro's. That's the only con.
Nice interior, looks great after a lip kit + drop + rims, it's rare, etc. etc. etc.

its all about preference. they have the k20a3 which is also offered in girl cars err i mean base model rsx's. that means, no i-vtec mechanism on the exhaust valves which doesnt make much sense to me.
I believe it's the lightest chassis to come with a k-series, stock. At least in the US market. It's a prime candidate for a motor swap since the racier models of the k-series are a direct bolt in.

i dont understand why you would spend that much money on a car then swap the motor for even more money.
If you were planning on swapping why wouldnt you just get a older civic or 90's model honda, they are lighter and you can do a full K swap for less than what youd spend on swapping an ep

Early EP3's can be had for fairly cheap, its a stiffer chassis, better K motors are basically direct bolt in, plus it might allow one to avoid spending any extra $ on bodywork/rust repair given we're comparing to an older honda that isn't mint.
Biggest con of the EP3 is the car's particular macpherson strut front suspension design. This, coupled with the fact that the steering rack is mounted quite high, a significant change to the car's ride height can screw with the suspension geometry. Although there are some solutions out there, albeit pricey ones. i.e inverted tie rod ends, roll center adjusters, coilovers which lower the steering arm, running the longer DC5R front lca's, etc. The rear geometry is pretty goofy as well.
If you ever look at pics of the realtime DC5's suspension (which I have saved if you'd like to see) to get the suspension to their liking they fabbed up their own rear trailing arm which mounts the shock in a different position. The front suspension is drastically changed with a relocated strut mount. All of this is one of the reasons they began to run a TSX.
Despite that, it's a great car. I have a blast driving mine.
