Default N/A or Boost?

Hey guys just wondering what the majority of you prefer. I want to start my motor build, however don't know if I want to go N/A or boost. I currently have a b16a2 in my eg and just purchased a B18C. I've seen some guys put out 225 whp on the gsrs which is extremely impresisive, however I can just slap a turbo on my b16 and make a quick 300 whp with the right set up and a good tune.

What do you prefer?

you know this thread will cause havoc dont you ??? LMAO JK
turbos are fun to drive but require alot of maintence if not set up properly the first time. N/A will last longer if built properly and tuned. my prefrence on the DOHCs is N/A on the SOHCs im partial to turbo but a good built N/A on a SOHC is easy to like also

I'm building the car for autocross and solo sprint, however I'd like to go 1/4 mile once and awhile and lay down some steady times.

Before you do either, check with the sanctioning body on what the specs are for the classes you are targeting.

Yup, no sense in dropping all that money on the motor only to find that the class you want to run will not allow you in it.

I hear running stock Dseries motors for Auto-x is pretty fun

i drive a b16a myself, in an eh3, i plan to boost.. I have a ton of respect for NA civics, but, i plan to save that experience for the k-swap, after i boost this b16.

Ill just be looking for around 330 whpish, then i plan to move to k series.

if i were you id probably go NA if you're autocrossing, but, i think ill always love boost.

It all depends on what kind of budget you are on. If you are on a tight budget, say college student living on your own, or just had a new baby or something, I would not recommend boosting. I've seen it twice in the last four months with my friends. they want to boost so bad, that they rush and try to cut corners and get "good deals" and then **** ends up breaking at least every other day.

However, if you have the money/time/patience/discipline to do it right, I think boosting can be pretty BA

I love my turbo GSR and wouldn't ever go back to NA, but the choice is going to stem from your goals and the rules for the class you plan on racing in.

If you do decide to turbo, read into the Forced Induction FAQ and you'll learn a lot in short order. Also, just because you its a turbo setup, doesn't mean it has to be a laggy setup unfit for auto x or road course racing. You can tailor a setup to any need.

Good luck with your decision

If planning on doing autoxing and track use, I would go N/A. All the power there when you need it. Turbo isnt bad but you will have to wait for it to spool up. But if you put too much power into your car youll be spinning tires around alot turns in the autox. N/A might not end up being AS fast as a boosted car, but its still not bad if you put alot of work into it and it will still make good 1/4 mile times. Also, N/A is more reliable in the future then a turbo if you dont have it set up right.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback. Looks like I've got a lot of thinking to do. Also an other question: Is boost good for daily driving? Or will there be a lot of breakage.

If this is your DD, then stick with N/A. But if you're like me and have a second car as a DD, then boost the hell out of the thing! Sohc E85 pwr!

Did you ever get that guy to see that car has no LSD?

That motor was pretty shady you could do a poor man's type R some pistons and cams could get you going pretty good

I think NA would be best for a auto cross setup the power down low would be worth it but you will want an LSD

OMG this question again. Someone should start a poll, which posts does H-T get most?
1. IDLE problem questions
2. N/A or Boost
3. What engine should I buy

Anyways, I've heard that boost can last just as long as N/A with very good tuning, and of course maintenance. I believe it could be true, and that it all relies on the tuner, and on driving style. Just choose a WHP goal, and figure out which would be more inexpensive, or which would be more possible regarding the availability of good tuners in your area.
