How can I clean the exhaust ports?
I was just wondering, if anyone has any suggestions on how to clean out the exhaust ports? I mean, I have the manifold off But I'm not too sure how to or what to use to clean it.
Carb cleaner if your feeling dangerous, allthough all the crap that you wash off will go into the chamber. Probally make your oil dirty a whole lot quicker.
A rag and carb cleaner mabey

I don't know, i wouldnt want carb cleaner in my chambers for even a few revolutions
Is it really that bad? if it is maybe the head needs gone over, make sure the risk is worth the reward

Well carb cleaner will evaporate relativly quick. So but the time you put the header back on it would be evaporated but will just wash the carbon build up crap into the piston chamber.

Dont want to get into a debate about the characteristics of carb cleaner in a chamber with minimal venting
either way bad things can happen

Don't bother cleaning them, they'll just get dirty again.
If you want to fully clean out the head, to say...port and polish or something, then you'd pull the head and gut the internals.

Im not saying to go out and do this. Im saying if you want to clean the ports, you clean it with carb cleaner. Ive done it before, no issues. I wont do it again, cause its pretty pointless.

I actually have the head off at the moment to repalce a burnt/broken ex. valve. So, I just trying to do some minor cleaning cuz I can't afford a port/polish job and it looks like pretty dirty. But like I've said before Im not too sure what to use to clean it? I was thinking of using a wire brush and a shop vac.

Have you not seen the word carb cleaner said numerous times?
I wouldnt use a wire brush, It would scrap the metal. Mabey a soft pad of some sort.

Are you reffering to the EGR port caps in the intake manifold? If so, then check out this procedure for removing them & cleaning the port out properly http://www.absoluteprelude.com...15340
Supposedly helps sort out any 3000rpm hesitation issues, that so many people complain about.
