how the [freak] does one go about removing the god damned alternator.


i searched and it talked about removing the bracket that hold the altn. on. is there any truth to this?

 

There should be two bolts you need to remove. The top one is the adjusting bolt and the bottom one is the alternator through-bolt. Make sure you unplug the battery first before removing the plug that goes onto the alternator.

 

you remove the bracket that holds it on the block IF you can't take it out from the top.

My brother's D16Z6 would NOT come out from the top
My B16A3 came out from the top after moving some wires

Its different for every car...sometimes you even need to remove an axle. My B-series would have needed the removal of the axle for me to drop it from the bottom, hence i took it out the top.

You don't need to remove the bracket itself.

There are 2 brackets/bolts holding the alternator. Lift the car, look under. Theres one. The other one is easier to get to from top. Almost by the firewall. Also, don't forget to take the negative terminal off the battery or you'll be in for a shock. Remove the plug from the harness and theres also a 10mm nut you gotta take off.

 

ok after doing some research and tinkering with the car this is what i found.


for your stock motor ek.

one (not the only way) of the better ways to finish the job is to remove the plugs and the bolts from the alternator (making the alternator free). unscrew the two bolts from the master cylinder and pull it to upper right hand side of the car.remove the mis. bracket around the area your wanting it to come out (in this case the top) next pull the bitch. it will come out, promise.


reverse the step to put it back in.


done and done.
