Re: Alternator removal...
You need to remove the splash shield and the alternator mount bracket (rusted in your photo). Then the alternator will easily slide out to the left over the axle.

You have to get at the alternator from the side of the engine. There is no good way to take it off without removing the tire, splash guard, and alternator mount. Go at it from the side of the car and you will have the alternator off in no time.
Also, have some PB Blaster handy in order to get those nuts/bolts loose. Without it you could crank on them FOREVER. Or, make sure you can get your socket on there with a 1/2" ratchet and PULLLLLLLLLL>

I have had success with removing the alterrnator out the top on my 00 ex w/ d16y8. You have to turn it every which way, and move some hoses and cables out the way, but it can be done. Ive only had success on the d16y8, never tried on other motors.

Wiggle the alternator up and down to get it off the bracket. Turn it and pull it out between the steering rack and axle. If you have power steering, you may have to push the lines slightly to get enough room. I had to do that on a 1994 EX. With manual steering, it comes out easier right above the axle. On an Integra, it says you have to pull the axle...

removed multiple times without removing bracket, use a pry bar or large flat tip screwdriver to pry it out on the bracket, slide it towards the center of the motor and should get it out there.

gear wrench on the top bolt from above, gear or ratchet from below, screwdriver to pry the alt from the bracket. no need to remove thet tire or anything. if it wont drop down for ya, wiggle it towards teh passenger side and drop it to the ground under the battery. simple. the alt likes to get stuck though, so be patient
